Celebrate a Music-Filled Summer With Concerts

Somerset County Park Commission sponsoring annual series in Bridgewater.

Summer is almost officially here, the weather is on and off sunny and that can only mean one thing—the Somerset County 2013 Summer Concert Series is returning to Bridgewater, as of July 4. Sponsored by the Somerset County Park Commission, the weekly event that lasts through July and August features different kinds of musicians each Sunday. Guests are invited to bring out their lawn chairs and snacks, and park themselves on the lawn at Duke Island Park to listen to the music and dance with the festivities. And while you're already juggling work schedules, chores and who knows what else, how about spending a day in celebration of World Juggling Day? The Long Hill Library is marking Saturday's celebration with juggling enthusiast Dennis Soldati, a former president of the International Jugglers' Association and one of the foremost authorities on the 4,000-year history of juggling.  Soldati has performed as a juggler and "heavyweight" juggler, and is cited in the World Almanac Publications' "Book of Buffs, Masters, Mavens and Other Uncommon Experts." Swim, Tennis Lessons Offered This Summer

They are being offered at county locations.

Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every Wednesday we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself. And with summer on its way, there is no better time to get some lessons on great summer activities offered through the Somerset County Park Commission. First, the Warrenbrook Pool, on Warrenville Road in Warren, is hosting lessons at the only public outdoor swimming facility the county owns. The pool will open for the season June 28 at 12 p.m., and will remain open seven days a week through Sept. 3. The county is offering a variety of swimming lessons for all abilities, including Toddlers, Beginner I, Beginner II, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate. All …

Carnival's Coming to Somerset

The Crestwood Montessori School is holding its annual event.

And what better way to celebrate a beautiful weekend than with games, animals and much more? The Crestwood Montessori School on Cortelyous Lane in Somerset is hosting its annual carnival Saturday. The carnival will feature a magician, petting zoo, crafts, games and prizes. The event is open to the public, not just students of the school, and will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The price of the carnival is $20 a family or $5 a person for admission and tickets.

Antique Car Show Coming to Bridgewater Library

This week, it’s time to check out some vintage cars, and get a little taste of the antique at the 9th Annual Car Show at the Bridgewater Township Library. The event will be held Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. According to a release from the library, about 75 vintage cars will be at the show, and visitors will vote on different criteria for each car, including such categories as Best in Show, Dream Car, Best Paint Job and more. “We started the show as a way to illustrate the beauty and history of vintage vehicles for local car buffs,” said Rich Loomis, the …
