8 Money-Saving Tricks for Your Memorial Day BBQ (Sponsored)

Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? Here are new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.

Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbecue experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party.   Here's their tips on how to save money on your Memorial Day feast. 1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead — say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled rib eye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbecue grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but …

Yankees Help Bring New Rival for Red Bulls

New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.

The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. We will work to deliver good, beautiful football to the fans in New York,” said Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano. “We are very happy and honored to have the Yankees as partners.” Yankees…

James, Why belittle another sport (which I dislike, by the way) in order to make your point? And all my point was that the attempt to market MLS as "major league," given the premiere leagues already in places--a number in Europe--was, to me, a waste of time. Can you go to an MLS game and have a great time and see a competitive, fairly topnotch game? Sure, in the same way you can go see the …   more ›

Man Accused of Having Child Porn Held Without Bail

Watchung's Peter Deck appeared in court for first time on charges.

A Watchung man charged with child pornography possession had his first appearance in court Wednesday and afterwards was detained without bail according to U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman. Patrick Deck, 53, has been accused of having several sexually-suggestive photographs of children, Fishman's office said in a press release. Deck was arrested at his home in August 2012 after authorities found three images on his laptop, Fishman said. The images had been downloaded off the Internet. If convicted, Deck could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Special agents of U.S. Homeland Security assisted with the investigation in addition to New Jersey State Police and the Warren County Prosecutor's Office.
