Yankees Help Bring New Rival for Red Bulls

New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015

The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. Somerset To Honor Memorial Day With Many Celebrations

Towns set times for parades, picnics and more — even a commemorative motorcycle run.

Memorial Day is an important occasion in Somerset County, and Patch towns throughout the county will pause and remember those who served — or who are serving now — the nation with a full schedule of parades and other events. "Everyone should honor those who fought for us," said Sari Mazen, owner of the Bagel Bin in Bernardsville, which will serve breakfast after the flag-raising at Olcott Square in the center of Bernardsville at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, part of a weeklong series of activities to recognize Memorial Day in that little borough. Swim, Tennis Lessons Offered This Summer

They are being offered at county locations.

Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every Wednesday we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself. And with summer on its way, there is no better time to get some lessons on great summer activities offered through the Somerset County Park Commission. First, the Warrenbrook Pool, on Warrenville Road in Warren, is hosting lessons at the only public outdoor swimming facility the county owns. The pool will open for the season June 28 at 12 p.m., and will remain open seven days a week through Sept. 3. Teacher Says Goodbye to Watchung Hills 'Family'

30-year veteran teacher Barry Kostibos retires this year.

“There are a lot of good people here; it’s more of a family atmosphere,” Barry Kostibos said, as he reflected upon his 30-year teaching career at Watchung Hills Regional High School, which comes to an end this year. Kostibos, a Villanova University graduate, came to Watchung Hills in 1983 as a member of the Social Studies Department and taught such courses as American History, Introduction to Psychology, Human Relationships and a myriad of Advanced Placement and College Prep courses in history and related social studies areas. Along the way, he himself was taking courses which would lead to two master’s degrees, one in methods of teaching (Seton Hall University), and one in administration (Rutgers University). Watchung Police Probe Rash of Shoplifting Reports

Man escaped Walmart after trying to steal two TVs, police said.

Watchung police made numerous arrests recently after a rash of shoplifting reports. A loss prevention officer said a shoplifter ran from the store after being detained around 6:54 p.m. May 14. Police said a man tried to leave the store with two LG 32-inch television sets by showing a false receipt to employees at the exit. When he was stopped, the man escaped before police arrived. Daniel Demaurez, 21, was charged with shoplifting after he was found at 1:29 p.m. with $142.63 worth of items from the store, police said. Demaurez was processed and released, with a court appearance scheduled for June 5. According to police, Bellamy was found in the Homeowners Heaven lot in North Plainfield after officials with Sears registered the complaint. …

Henderson Harbor Opening Office in Bridgewater

Henderson Harbor, a professional search and consulting firm, recently opened an office on Route 22 in Bridgewater. The company already has its headquarters in Jersey City, according to a release from the company, and administrative services will continue there.
