Abigail Brennan Earns Girl Scout's Gold Award

Prepares program on healthy habits for preschoolers, kindergarten classes.

Mount Saint Mary Academy senior Abigail Brennan received her Girl Scout Gold Award over the summer after designing a healthy living program for children.

Brennan created and presented “A Fit and Fun Healthy Lifestyle” for preschoolers and kindergartners at Holy Trinity Interparochial School in Mountainside last school year.  The program was centered on raising awareness among young children of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and balanced food choices.

The program offered students different stations of instruction including activities in agility, climbing, and a healthy food race.

“I really enjoy working with kids,” said Brennan. “I did a lot of research with the kids’ teachers to make sure the program was age-appropriate.”

Brennan purposefully chose to center her program on children of a very young age.

“It’s important to start healthy eating and exercising early because as you get older, it’s easier to develop bad habits,” she said.  “Health is something that is important for the rest of your life.”
