Baseball, Softball League Expands Schedules for 2013

Online registration for teams underway until Jan. 31.

Warren Baseball and Softball Inc., (WBSI) chartered Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball and Softball organization, is accepting applications for the 2013 spring recreation season. Based on feedback which has been received from parents and coaches, several exciting changes have been made for this year’s Spring Baseball and Softball program.  

Among those changes are:

  • There will be an expanded schedule of games in each league.
  • There will be dedicated weekly practice time for Minors, Majors, and Senior leagues.
  • Teams at the Minors level and older will be selected by the coaches via a draft.
  • Clinics will be held for players and coaches for both softball and baseball.

All children of Warren township residents from kindergarten through high school (ages 4-15 for Babe Ruth rules) are eligible to participate in the baseball and softball leagues.

All girls from Watchung and Green Brook (ages 4-15 for Babe Ruth rules) are eligible to participate in the T-ball league and all the softball leagues. The new league structure is described on the Web site.

Mandatory baseball and softball evaluations will be held for certain leagues in March. Please check the Web site for times and locations.

WBSI is encouraging Middle School girls in sixth through ninth grades to join the spring 2013 recreation softball league, comprised of players from Warren, Watchung and Green Brook.

The WBSI Babe Ruth recreational senior league program, comprisedof players from the Watchung Hills Regional High School sending district (Warren, Watchung, Long Hill and Green Brook) willcontinue after several successful seasons for boys 13-15 years old (Babe Ruth birthday rules).

Players that sign-up between Feb. 1 and Feb. 15 will be charged a $50 late fee. Players that sign-up between Feb. 16 and Feb. 28 will be charged a $100 late fee if room is still available.
