Incumbents William Franklin and Debra Joren, both Republicans, are unopposed in their bids for reelection to the Watchung Borough Council. 

Rhea Williams joins James Rhyner, John Malchow and Tiffany Brigante in seeking three, three-year seats on the Watchung Borough Board of Education in the first school board election on the November ballot. Rhyner, Malchow and Brigante are all filling unexpired terms of previous members. Georgia Glasser-Nehls filed to seek the remaining year of Rhyner's term.

Mark Caliguire hopes to reclaim the Somerset County Freeholders seat he was appointed to fill last year, after Jack Ciattarelli stepped into the New Jersey Assembly 16th District seat after the death of Peter Biondi. He joins fellow Republican incumbent Patrick Scaglione in the race facing DemocratsAnthony Pranzatelli and William Galtieri.

Leonard Lance, Republican, seeks to hold his 7th Congressional District seat against a challenge by Democrat Upendra Chivukula.

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D) will take on Republican challenger Joe Kyrillos.

President Barack Obama, Democrat, will face the presumptive Republican candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a campaign that has already focused heavily on the economy and job growth.
