Voting Schedules for Watchung, Green Brook Set

Officials announce polling site changes for Tuesday's general election.

Voters in several voting districts in both Watchung and Green Brook will have to go alternative voting locations Tuesday, unless they choose to vote before at the Somerset County Clerk's Office in Somerville.

Both towns have altered the normal voting locations for some districts because it could not be assured those locations would have power restored in time. Under plans announced yesterday by the Division of Elections, in the Department of State, county clerks requested local officials to determine which sites might be available for voting and any possible alternative locations. That information was then relayed to the county Board of Elections for review and approval.

Voters can also pick up a mail-in ballot at the Somerset County Clerk’s Office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday (the deadline for returning mail-in ballots). Residents who pick up a vote-by-mail ballot Saturday, Sunday or Monday will be able to complete it and drop it off at the Board of Elections, located next to the County Clerk’s Office.

Green Brook voters in district 3—who usually vote at Irene E. Feldkirchner School—will vote at Green Brook Middle School, instead. Districts 1 and 4 will vote as usual at GBMS.

Districts 2 and 5 will vote at the usual polling place at Firehouse No. 2 on Rock Road West.

"We felt it would be better to have as many as possible together in one place," Green Brook Township Administrator Kelly Cupit said. She added the township will probably have generator power for the voting machines, another reason to consolidate the voting locations.

Watchung voters usually casting ballots in borough schools will be voting at new locations, Tuesday. District 3, which usually votes at Bayberry School, will vote in the lower level of the Watchung Exempt Hall (next to the borough offices). Districts 2 and 4 will vote at the municipal courthouse, adjacent to the police department, instead of Valley View School.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
