Tallwoods Lane Parking Ban Eyed

Tallwoods housing complex requests ban on parking at crowded intersection.

Green Brook Township may act on a request from the Tallwoods Homeowners Association to ban parking on the corner of Rock Avenue and Tallwoods Lane, but the association's residents aren't too keen on the idea.

“Where are we supposed to park?” Tallwoods resident James Schroeder asked. “They give us two spots, but we have four people that drive. Now we are going to have to compete with the people at Green Brook Gardens. The board should have spoken to us before sending a request.”

Tallwoods board member Shailesh Chirpotkar reported that the board did this solely out of safety concerns for the kids.

“This was a safety concern with all the kids standing in the morning while waiting for the bus,” he said.

That concern was echoed by Township Engineer Richard Roseberry at the Aug. 20 Township Committee meeting, where committee members expressd thier support for the proposed ban.

“Visibility is blocked by parked vehicles,” Roseberry said. “I have gone out to look and I support allowing no parking.”

To ban parking, committee members will need to change the township's parking laws, requiring passage of an ordinance, followed by a public hearing and a second vote. If the ordinance passes on second reading, the ban would go into effect 45 days later.

And while that might solve one problem, Rose Cappola, another resident that lives in Tallwoods, said a parking ban would just create other problems.

“It will create a problem for our complex because a lot of people are forced to park on the street because of of limited spaces,” Capolla said. “I acknowledge that there is a safety concern, but maybe there needs to be a compromise.”
