Green Brook Extends Sandy-Related Fee Waivers

After hearing from residents waiting for insurance settlements before undertaking repairs for damage caused during superstorm Sandy, the Township Committee agreed to a 60-day extension waiving fees for township permits and extensions, Wednesday.

"It was brought to my attention the fee waiver was about to run out," Township Administrator Kelly Cupit said at the meeting. She outlined the situation some have told her about, and asked if the committee would approve a 30-day waiver.

Deputy Mayor Jerry Searfoss suggested a 60-day waiver instead, which members agreed should be enough time for residents to make arrangements for any work needed.

"I wouldn't want to go past there," Mayor Pat Boccio said.

He added anyone who isn't able to complete work because of outstanding insurance issues should be able to still get a waiver after the 60-days, but will need to apply for it with the township and provide documentation showing the reasons for needing an extension.

The move extends the township's fee waiver first approved by the Township Committee Nov. 19.
