Woman Does Own Investigating When iPhone Stolen

Green Brook police report victim went on search for her cell phone.

A Green Brook woman took matters into her own hands after her iPhone was taken on July 26, according to Green Brook police.

After reporting her phone missing to police, the 19-year-old victim used her computer to locate the phone. Initially, the phone was at the Salvation Army discount store on Route 22, where it stayed overnight until being moved to an apartment building on Bound Brook Street in Dunellen at about 2 p.m. July 27.

The phone was turned off at 3:45 p.m., blocking further tracing.

She then went to the address, and knocked on doors inquiring about her phone—but all of the residents denied any knowledge of the phone. The victim then contacted Dunellen police, telling them she recognized one of the building's residents as having the same name as an employee at the Salvation Army, and that she believed the woman was the employee's mother.

Police spoke to the Salvation Army employee, who said he was "aware of the cell phone situation," but said he did not know its location.
