Watchung Police Nab Men Wanted in New York Robbery

Brooklyn men sought in connection to Rockland County incident.

Watchung Police took Aleksandr Stepenskiy, 29, of Brooklyn, and Nikoloz Kubaneishuili, 42, also of Brooklyn, into custody on April 19 in connection to an investigation of a strong arm robbery in Clarkstown, N.Y., on April 17.

Police stopped the 2008 Suzuki Forenza Stepenskiy was driving on Route 22 at 1:55 p.m. in the parking lot of the Home Depot, after a check of the vehicle revealed an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

After he was taken into custody, Watchung police contacted Clarkstown police, who verified the description of Stepenskiy.

He was taken to Somerset County Jail to await extradition to New York.

Clarkstown Police Sgt. Harry Bauman said Stepenskiy was wanted in connection to a case of shoplifting that escalated to strong arm robbery when Stepenskiy assaulted a security guard at the Home Depot there.

Kubaneishuili was also wanted for an immigration violation by the Department of Homeland Security—Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was turned over to ICE agents.
