State Police at Somerville barracks said officers were still out along I-78 in the vicinity of Warren Township, Berkeley Heights and Watchung on Friday afternoon clearing multiple accidents, with most of the disabled vehicles moved onto the shoulder as of shortly before 3:30 p.m.
A trooper added at about 4 p.m. that the accidents had been mostly cleared by that time, except for residual accidents.
Another officer blamed what he said were about 10 accidents, none fatal, on the rain.
Traffic was stalled on Route 78 in the Watchung-Berkeley Heights area Friday afternoon near exit 41 on the westbound side of the highway following an accident that left a vehicle overturned, according to the New Jersey State Police.
Officers were at the scene where a vehicle had rolled over in the left lane of the westbound highway, said a trooper from the Somerville barracks shortly before 1 p.m.
