Sex Assault, Child Porn Latest Charges Against Watchung Man

52-year-old accused of videoing people in amusement park bathroom now faces charges in Chester Township, Watchung and Hope Township.

A Watchung man who faces invasion of privacy charges for allegedly videoing people in an amusement park bathroom is now accused of sexually assaulting a child and possession of child pornography, authorities said Friday.

Patrick Deck, 52, of Lakeview Avenue, was charged Friday by three jurisdictions in Warren, Morris and Somerset counties.

Watchung authorities charged Deck with second-degree committing a sexual assault by contact with a child who was between the ages of 11 and 12 years old and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Deck was also charged with possession of images of children under the age of 16 engaged in a sexual act.

Chester Township Police charged Deck with filming a child who was less than 16 years old engaging in a sexual act and second-degree sexual assault by contact with a child between the ages of 11 and 12 years old. Deck was also charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child for sexual contact that occurred when the child was between the ages of 6 and 10 years old, the Warren County Prosecutor's Office said.

Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke said the charges in Watchung and Chester stem from alleged contact with the same child, who knew Deck.

Deck was also charged by Hope Township authorities with possession of images of children under the age of 16 and fourth-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Deck, who remains jailed at the Warren County Correctional Facility, was initially charged earlier this week with invasion of privacy for allegedly . He was also charged with possession of a .22-caliber rifle in violation of terms of previous sentencing issued by courts.

The sexual assault charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison, while the endangering charges carry up to five-year sentences if convicted.

NJ.com reported authorities searched Deck's home on Wednesday, discovering not only the rifle, but also videotapes that led to the latest charges. Police also said they removed a computer.

Deck is currently being held in Warren County Correctional Center, with bail set at $200,000. He has been ordered not to contact either the child victim or family of the victim, the prosecutor's office said.

Deck had posted bail for the invasion of privacy charges, but was being held on $100,000 bail for the gun possession charges.

Burke said if Deck is able to make bail, he will be placed under house arrest, wear an electronic monitoring device, and avoid all contact with children.

Deck is scheduled to appear in Belvidere court on Monday.

In this past week two neighboring communities have made headlines around New Jersey but not for anything that can be boasted about. The murder of a No. Plfd. woman and the child porn charges brought against a Watchung resident should remind all residents to report any activity deemed suspicious to local authorities. It does not infer "witch hunts" etc. albeit to simply keeping a watchful eye on their own surroundings including being cognizant on whom is residing in their communities. Both No. Plfd. and Watchung Boroughs are and will remain good solid communities to raise families and enjoy serene comfortable surroundings. Local authorities can always use a lending hand to make their jobs easier and safer while insuring all residents have a better quality of life.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this man has previously harmed children and has been in someway punished by the law for his crimes. Now, he was caught video taping boys, which leads them to find out that he has a gun which he is not allowed to have, he has done the unthinkable with a boy of 16, another boy inbetween the age of 11/12 and also with a boy between 6/10 years old and they are saying that if he is able to make bail, he will be placed under house arrest, wear an electronic monitoring device, and avoid all contact with children. REALLY!!! Because he already was to avoid ALL contact will children in the first place. Raise his bail, this way he can enjoy himself in prision as a child molester. There is something very wrong with the way we punish those who harm children in anyway. Some drug dealers, thefts, crooks, embezzlers ( Bernie Madoff ), tax evaders, serve more time for their crimes then a child molester. We put murders in prison for life and these child molesters are taking the lives and the innocents of many children and we allow them to continue this behavior by only giving them 5 to 10 year sentences and if they behave they get out early. BTW! Of course their going to behave in prison, because there are no children in prison. Children need to be protected, they need US as a whole to make sure that these people remain in prison, they don't stop, they can't change, so keep them locked up. We have to change the punishments for these crimes.

he lives on a road just 2 block from the town's one middle school, which has a path through the woods link this to a second neighborhood. ..very creepy... especially having a child at that school, and living in that 2nd neighborhood

I agree wholeheartedly. Our system protects the wrong people sometimes. The poor kids were given a life sentence of pain by him. He should get nothing less.
