Murdered Watchung Man's Investigation Ongoing

Authorities are continuing their investigation of the homicide of Lamont Downing, the 34-year-old Watchung man who was found shot to death inside a minivan in Irvington last week.

Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray's office, said Monday authorities are still working on the case.

"The investigation into the Lamont Downing homicide is still active. No arrests have been made," she said.

Downing's body, which was found slumped down in the front seat of the van parked on Melrose Avenue Tuesday night, had multiple gunshot wounds, the prosecutor's office said.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Irvington Police Department.
