Hit-and-Run Driver Sought, Pedestrian Hospitalized

A Middlesex man was bleeding from the face and transported to the hospital Monday afternoon after being struck by a car while walking across Route 22 in Green Brook.

Ptl. Matt Benderoth said the man, in his 30s, was walking to work around 1 p.m. on Warrenville Road, crossing Route 22, when a driver traveling south turned on to Route 22 and allegedly hit him. Benderoth said the pedestrian had the right-of-way and a green light to cross. The driver, described as an elderly, white female, was driving what appeared to be a light, metallic blue Toyota Prius.

"She turned into him, threw him up in the air and continued to drive," Benderoth said.

Benderoth said he was "shocked" that no other motorists stopped and no witnesses reported a license plate number of the driver. The driver continued toward North Plainfield, he said.

The Middlesex man, whose name was not released, suffered only minor injuries, Benderoth said, and was transported by the rescue squad to Somerset Medical Center.
