Green Brook Police Say Woman Living in 'Uninhabitable' House

Green Brook police took a Top Avenue woman into custody on an outstanding warrant from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, after a relative requested police check on her.

The incident occurred after police received a welfare check at 8:45 am. June 3 by the father-in-law of the woman, who told police she was a heroin addict and had open sores that he was concerned were infected. He also said he was concerned about her state of mind, and asked police to check on her condition.

On arriving at the scene, police were able to enter through an unlocked patio door after the resident did not respond to their requests to open the door. The resident's dogs were held by the father-in-law as police searched the house, finding the resident hiding in a bedroom.

She was taken into custody and turned over to Somerset County on the outstanding warrant for her failure to appear in court, since she was unable to pay the $300 bail.

Police noted the property was strewn with garbage and feces, and did not have electricity or water service. The property owner was contacted and advised of the condition of the property that police deemed uninhabitable.
