Windows Smashed, Auto Dealerships Burglarized

Green Brook GMC and Liccardi Motors broken into earlier this week.

Green Brook Police are investigating a pair of burglaries at local auto dealerships during the early-morning hours on Tuesday.

The break-ins at and appear to have netted little, although the thieves ransacked offices in both businesses. A safe at Liccardi Motors was pried from floor-mounting bolts and pulled about 100 feet outside the building, before the thieves gave up on it and left it unopened between vehicles on the lot.

Becuase of the weight of the safe, police said at least two people were involved in the burgary.

Police were contacted by a cleaning woman at Liccardi at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 4, who said she heard glass breaking as she began cleaning in the company offices. She found the window on a back door broken outward, indicating someone trying to exit the building.

Police found the door to a rear office had been pried open, with drawers and files in the office ransacked, including one containing used vehicle titles and another that may held keys. Liccardi managers were checking to determine if any items were actually missing.

Shortly after, police were notified that a similar break-in had occurred at Green Brook GMC, with $100 in cash and three temporary vehicle registration tags taken. Several offices in the business were ransacked. The burglars again smashed a window on a rear door to gain access to the business.

The burglary occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Sept. 3 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 4.

Green Brook GMC had also reported the theft of an air intake and filter from a 2008 GMC Denali SUV occurring between Aug. 27 and Sept. 1.
