Burglars Take Copper Tubing from Washington Road Building

Green Brook Police reports for the week of April 17.

Green Brook Police received a complaint from the Shogun restaurant that a customer had left without paying a $60 dinner bill on April 17. The customer allegedly complained that a liquid spilled on his "$2,000 shoes" ruined them, then said "never mind" when the restaurant offered to pay to have the shoes cleaned. The customer then left the restaurant without paying for the dinner.

An employee of One Main Financial reported the theft of an iPhone from her desk at 12:35 p.m. April 18. Police are continuing to investigate the theft.

Adam Bassi, 22, of Downer's Grove, Il., was taken into custody at 10 a.m. April 19, after police discovered two outstanding warrants for his arrest stemming from charges of soliciting without a permit from Clifton Municipal Court. He was released after posting bail, pending an appearance in municipal court.

The owner of a Washington Avenue commercial property reported the theft of copper tubing from the building's air conditioning system. The report, received at 2:42 p.m. April 22, noted the owner had not visited the building for about two months. Police determined someone entered through a back door, after removing hinge pins from the door. No estimate of the value of the tubing or cost to repair damage was available.

Police investigated the reported theft of $20 in gas from the Warrenville Exxon at 6:35 p.m. April 22, after the station reported a North Plainfield woman had left her driver's license and a bag as collateral when her credit card was declined for the purchase. North Plainfield reported the address was not current, and a phone number left with the gas station was disconnected.

A West End Avenue resident reported the theft of a BB pellet gun sometime between April 6 and about 8 p.m. April 23. The resident was unable to details on the manufacturer of the gun.

On April 23, the office on Route 22 reported two checks cashed for customers, totaling $11,770, and drawn on an account owned by Telephone Island, of Fairfield, had been returned by the bank.

A Basking Ridge man driving on Route 22 at 2:24 p.m. April 24 reported hitting a 5-gal. paint container near the store, causing damage to the front end of the vehicle he was driving, as well as covering part of the white vehicle with brown paint.
