Bank's Mixup Saves Customer from Fraud

Sometimes, inefficiency isn't a bad thing. Consider the case of the King Court resident who nearly fell prey to a case of credit card fraud.

The resident contacted Green Brook police after discovering a woman had contacted Citibank and requested a password change for her credit card account.

The woman also asked to have a name added to the accoount, and requested two new credit cards be sent to an air force base in the Phillipines.

The bank helpfully fulfilled all of the requests, except the last one, mailing the new credit cards to the proper King Court address.

Before any fraudulent charges were made on the account, the near-victim contacted Citibank to report the attempted fraud and close the account. She also notified the Federal Trade Commission, which will conduct an investigation also, as well as police.
