Bound Brook Resident Killed in Route 22 Collision

The two-car accident occurred on Route 22 West early Thursday morning.

A Bound Brook resident was killed in a two-car motor vehicle accident on Route 22 West Thursday morning that shut down one lane for about four hours, according to a release from the Bridgewater Township Police Department.

Esperanza Guardado, 45, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Manville resident Silvia Marin was driving her Honda Civic on Route 22 West in the area of North Adamsville Road when she lost control of her vehicle for unknown reasons and struck a Nissan being driven by Hasmukh Talsania, of Jersey City.

Both vehicles left the roadway into the left shoulder, police said, and the Honda struck a tree.

Guardado was a passenger in the Honda, and was pronounced dead at 6:57 a.m.

Talsania and his wife, Minaxiben—who was a passenger in the Nissan—were transported to Somerset Medical Center.

Also taken from the scene were Katia Barrantes, of Bound Brook, who was transported by Medevac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital with serious injuries; and 18-year-old Oscar Marin, of Manville, who also was transported to Robert Wood Johnson.

A third passenger, police said, was also transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. She is not being identified, police said, pending notification to her family.

The left lane of Route 22 West in the vicinity of the Bridgewater Diner was shut down for about four hours while the investigation into the accident continued.

In addition to Bridgewater police, at the scene were the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, NJ State Police, NJ State DOT, Green Knoll Fire Department, Green Knoll Rescue Squad, Somerset Medical Center Rescue Squad and Somerset Medical Center Paramedics, North Branch Fire Department and the Martinsville Rescue Squad.

The crash is still being investigated by the Bridgewater Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Collision, Analysis, Reconstruction Team.

Any witnesses to the accident are being asked to contact Bridgewater Township Traffic Safety Officer Jason Daunton at 908-722-4111, ext. 4174.

Not sure this is anyway to get Green Knoll FD's donations back to pre T-Mobile cell tower levels. You guys just need to apologize to your neighbors and I will start writing checks again.

Rt 22 is a really scary road. There must be some changes done on the road as soon as possible. I was dring on the raod for around 3 years, and I saw many accidents. Thanks God, now I am away from it.

Route 22 is a dangerous road based on the way it is designed, but it is the drivers who cause the accidents, not the roads. And it has to do with one simple thing: Disrespect for your fellow human beings. Once you're wrapped in that metal cocoon, you feel invincible. Oh well, we have until 2080 until the next meteor hits. That will give the earth a nice clean slate to start over again. Esperanza Guardado - Rest in peace.
