Sr. Marie Schultejann, Taught History at Montclair State, Dies at 88

Schultejann was a Sister of the Immaculate Conception and had served as academic dean at the former Tombrock College.

The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception mourn the loss of Sister Marie Schultejann, SMIC who died on January 5, 2014 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, N. J. 

Born on September 23, 1925 in Wheaton, IL to George and Jeanette Diehl Schultejann, Sr. Marie entered the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in West Paterson, N.J. in 1945 professing her perpetual vows on August 18, 1950. 

A consummate educator, she was a history instructor at Montclair State College, William Paterson State College and Tombrock College, where she also served as Academic Dean. She served in the Paterson Diocese as Associate Director of the Permanent Diaconate Program for several years, as well as Associate to the Executive Secretary for Pastoral Ministry and assistant director of the Paterson Diocesan Office of Ministries. 

Prior to this she had ministered in the Newark Archdiocese as field education director at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Seton Hall University, where she also served as associate director and director of Lay Ministry. 

When she was missioned to the Archdiocese of San Antonio, she continued her work, becoming a lecturer in the Ministry to Ministers Program and director of Lay Ministry at Oblate School of Theology, consultant for the Center for Clergy and Religious, and director of Faith Formation at St. Brigid's parish, San Antonio. 

Sr. Marie authored articles for "The Beacon", and as well as the books "Study Guide to Love's Reply" published by Franciscan Herald Press and "Ministry of Service: A Manual for Social Involvement," published by Paulist Press. 

In the midst of this, Sr. Marie served her congregation in many ways, including as a member of both US provincial council and the general council of the congregation. 

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Wilson (Jeanne) of Mathews, North Carolina. 

Interment was at the cemetery of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, N. J.
