'Jerseylicious:' Expo to Show Gatsby is a Premiere Salon

And Olivia Blois Sharpe takes a crack at business on her own.

The goal was to remind everyone that the is one of New Jersey's premiere salons as owner, and Bridgewater resident, Gayle Giacomo began preparations for "Gatsby Presents Timeless Classic Beauty" on this week's episode of "Jerseylicious."

Giacomo was concerned about reminding people that the Gatsby is a leader in the salon industry despite losing out to the Anthony Roberts Salon in an article about top salons in  magazine.

Giacomo decided to hold an expo, and invite other salons to participate in choosing a famous painting and recreating it by doing the hair and makeup of their stylists and having them pose within a frame—thereby recreating the paintings.

"We are having them do hair and makeup and frame it, so it will be like live art," she said.

The event, to be held in Atlantic City, will feature salons from around the state, and prizes will be given.

But tensions rose first when Giacomo hired an event planner to work on the event without telling her daughter and salon manager Christy Pereira, and then when she began to worry that the event wouldn't work as she watched her stylists having difficulty in rehearsals.

"If we can't do it and the other salons can't do it, it's going to come back on me," Giacomo said. "I don't want to look like a fool."

Makeup artist, and former Montville High School graduate, Olivia Blois Sharpe had other concerns in her mind as she found herself torn between her work for Giacomo and her work for the Anthony Roberts Salon. This time, when a call came for makeup and hair styling services, she decided against bringing it to either Gatsby to Go or Anthony Roberts, instead working with hair stylist Briella.

"Normally when I do a job, I feel exhausted," she said. "Between Gatsby and Anthony Roberts, they spread me so thin."

Instead, Sharpe said, she wanted to see if she could make a go of some freelance work, with the help of Briella, to do some fun jobs and enjoy the work she does.

And that culminated with asking Giacomo if she could enter the Gatsby expo on her own, instead of choosing between Gatsby and Anthony Roberts.

"This would be a challenge for me, and I would like to put my all into it," Sharpe said. "I think this is a good challenge."

The episode with the actual expo event will air the end of July.

"Jerseylicious" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on the Style Network.
