Swim Club Invites All to Spring Fling

For local residents who anxiously await the carnivals that spring up in the area in the summer, the Green Brook Swim Club has some good news: you don't have to wait.

Starting Wednesday and running through Saturday, the club's Spring Fling Carnival is bringing Warren's EXPO carnival rides vendor, the Somerset Patriot's mascot and possibly NJ 101.5FM radio's on-air personalities together.

Green Brook Swim Club's Jolaine Moffitt said the event, aimed at being a fundraiser for the 160-member club and its competitive swim team for kids 6 to 18, may become an annual event. 

"This carnival will hopefully bring some people in—a lot of people don't know we're here," Moffitt said. She said she even drove by the club's entrance off of Greenbrook Road a block west of Jefferson Avenue for some time after moving to Green Brook before she drove in and discovered all the club offers. 

Set back among the trees are the wading pool, the larger, five-lane competition pool and diving boards, and other amenities members can enjoy. The carnival is being set up in  preparation of the opening of the carnival, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. 

Head over on the first night and enjoy the $20 opening night Bracelet night (all rides for $20). The carnival will open at 6 p.m. and stay open until 10 p.m. each night, except Saturday when it opens at 4 p.m.

In addition to the carnival, Moffitt said each night promises entertainment, food and games.

"On Wednesday, we'll have a DJ; Thursday and Saturday, we'll have bands—there migth be more than one (each night)," she said. And on Friday night, radio station 101.5FM plans to try to broadcast from the carnival, plus Sparkee, the mascot of the Somerset Patriots, will be around.

The carnival is aimed at raising money for the club and the Gators Swim Team, which competes in the New Jersey Swimming and Diving Conference. The club is owned by its membership, and some may want to join while at the carnival. Moffitt said the capacity of the club is about 280, so there's room to grow.
