Let's Yo! a Cool New Treat Just in Time for Summer

Watchung's frozen yogurt shop opens Thursday.

If the heat gets to be too much for you, head over to the Blue Star Shopping Center and the new Let's Yo! frozen yogurt shop.

Whether you need a cold treat t 9 a.m. or 11 p.m., the store—operated by Linden residents Chris and Melanie Romano—offers satisfying treats.

The store starts where most frozen yogurt places start, offering 18 flavors of frozen yogurt, then offers a myriad of combinations. First, there's the dispensers, which can blend two flavors to create a new flavor (or allow someone to customize the blend, if they want).

Romano estimates the yogurt flavors—which are made daily in the store with certified live, active cultures—can be blended into about 200 flavors.

"You might come in one day, and we'll have strawberry and cheesecake flavors, which combine for strawberry cheesecake—on another day, you might find strawberry and peanut butter, to make a peanut butter and jelly blend," Romano said.

Frozen yogurt for breakfast sound crazy? Not if it's topped with Kashi Go Lean...or Fruit Loops. Dispensers let customers choose from a variety of dry toppings, including the heart-healthy cereal and the kids favorites.

Other toppings, such as fruit, candies and Moshi rice cakes are also available.

The store offers shakes (with available additives to add vitamins, glucosamine, fiber, weight loss blends), and Blizzard blends. Belgian waffles, fresh coffee and soft drinks round out the menu.

The Romanos decided to launch the business, their first, after discovering a location in Marlborough. The place was a hit with their kids.

"That just hit us—the kids loved it," Romano said, adding he was glad to find a place to take the kids for a treat that didn't load them up with sugar and processed foods. "We don't have to keep an eye over their shoulders."

The New Jersey-based chain was launched by Retro Fitness CEO Eric Casaburi, and is expected to have 20 open franchises by the end of the year.

The rapid growth comes not only from the fresh products but also the added features customers can enjoy while eating the treats: six iPads offer Internet access and games, while free Wifi is available to customers in the store. Two large screen digital TVs will provide entertainment with news broadcasts during the day, sports at night, or real-time Facebook updates for customers to post and view.
