Jazz, Improvables and NJ Idol on Tap at Watchung Arts Center

February and March offer many special programs and concerts.

Watchung Arts Center is calling all artists to submit entries in all media for a month-long art exhibition in the Upper Gallery entitled: Things People Do — Your personal interpretation of what you have seen people do, from the mundane…to the extraordinary. Friday, Feb. 8, 8 p.m.
“Jazz in the Gallery”: ImpresaRIO Concert: Rio Clemente, The Bishop of Jazz

$18 in advance, $22 ($20 for WAC members, $10 for students) at the door
The Center is fortunate to welcome back this master pianist. The audience will be treated to the energy and charisma of this jazz virtuoso and enjoy a night filled with musical inspiration and pure joy.

“NJ IDOL 2013”: Auditions

$20 Entry Fee. All submissions must be postmarked by January 28. The 2013 NJ IDOL vocal competition is open to New Jersey residents ages 15–29 years of age performing all genres of music such as folk, country, pop, classical, gospel and rock. Information and forms on the NJ Idol page.

Family-friendly Improv: The Improvables

All tickets $8
Join The Improvables, the Watchung Arts Center’s cast of hilarious characters. They have been performing to crowds of families and adults at WAC for nine years. Each show is a new experience, refreshing and full of outrageous moments and hysterical experiences.

Special Event: 1st Annual Watchung Hills Regional High School Video Showcase

$15 ($8 for students)
The Watchung Arts Center and the staff and students of WHRHS present a night of short films by WHRHS Video Production students. Genres include drama, comedy, and horror. 

Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m.
“Classicals at the Circle”: The Olsen Duo

$16 in advance, $20 ($18 for WAC members, $10 for students) at the door
Soprano Pamela Olsen and pianist Eric Olsen join forces for a special concert this season bringing the poetic sounds of piano and voice together among the arts in the intimate Upper Gallery.

Friday, Feb. 22, 8 - 10 p.m.
“NJ IDOL 2013”: Semi-Final Day 1

The 2013 NJ IDOL vocal competition semi-finals. A panel of judges will evaluate each contestant based on singing, musicality, appearance, and stage presence. The winner will receive $500 and the two runner-ups will receive industry professional services prizes. Tickets: $15, limited seating available.

Featured Performance: Les Paul and Mary Ford Tribute

Enjoy the phenemonal sound of Les Paul and Mary Ford in this exciting tribute performance by Tom Doyle and Sandy Cory.
