Tornado, Flood Watch For Somerset County Friday

Be alert for the possibility of tornadoes until 5 p.m. Friday, and flooding until 10 p.m.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 5 p.m. Friday for the central and southern portions of the state, the National Weather Service announced Friday afternoon. The area could see a band of heavy showers that bring thunder and locally strong winds.

A Flood Watch has also been announced for Somerset County until 10 p.m. due to the downpours combined with snowmelt.

The Tornado Watch was originally issued for Delaware and Maryland, but was expanded into New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania early Friday afternoon. Tornado Watches indicate that severe weather is possible. A Tornado Warning means one has been spotted.

New Jersey counties included in the watch are Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer, Hunterdon, Ocean, Monmouth, Salem, Burlington, Atlantic, Camden, Gloucester, Cape May and Cumberland.
