Reading Club for Youth with Special Needs Continues this Fall

Summit Community Programs and TryCAN are pleased to announce that the Reading Club continues to run again this fall, a series of four weekly classes on Wednesdays starting October 30 from 4:45-5:30pm at the Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Avenue.  This is a popular and affordable group class designed for children ages 5-9 to help children with special needs or otherwise struggling or reluctant readers experience the joys of reading.  In a completely embarrassment and failure free setting, the class will capitalize on strengths, instill self-confidence and foster a Can-Do attitude to help children read more confidently.

Our Club is led by Sarah Hanson, a Certified Teacher who has a wealth of experience as a teacher in the school system and well as extensive experience teaching reading to students with unique needs. Sarah has also worked extensively in recreation for young children, so she brings a unique perspective to our program and is able to meld her love of education and recreation into our reading club.  In addition to working on core skills depending on your child's area (such as decoding, word attack, comprehension, making appropriate reading choices) using books, games, music and other activities, the Club plans on occasionally one class each session at the public library help students make appropriate reading choices in the community.

A great class – and at only $13 a week.  Pre-registration required.  Contact Summit Community Programs at 908-277-2932 to register or to learn more.  You can also register online at https://register.communitypass.net/summit
