The Somerset County Business Partnership has a list of the companies with the most employees.
There are many major employers throughout the county, with large numbers of employees, ranging in the thousands—and the Somerset County Business Partnership has put together the top 10 employers. The data as a whole, including information on education and the county itself, can be found here. The top employer in the county is Verizon Business, located in Basking Ridge, with 3,500 employees. The next five employers each boast 2,000 employers. They are Avaya Inc., in Basking Ridge; Cegedim Dendrite, in Bedminster; Chubb Group of Insurance Co., in Warren; Johnson and Johnson Research and Development, in Raritan; and Sanofi-Aventis Us LLC, in Bridgewater. There are big changes ahead for the mall—what do you think of them?
A number of stores have closed in the Bridgewater Commons Mall, some are moving to different areas and yet another group are opening in the coming year. In the recent months, Bridget’s Irish Cottage has relocated to Westfield, while Joe Fresh, Build-a-Bear Workshop and Wet Seal have all closed down. “Stores that have closed recently have all closed for varying reasons,” said Amy Knorr, marketing manager for the mall. “I can tell you that most vacant spaces, with the exception of one or two, are spoken for, meaning they are in lease negotiations.” The next store to open, Knorr said, is Sephora, which will open June 13 in its expanded space on the lower level of the mall. The Somerset County Business Partnership has information on money spent.
The Somerset County Business Partnership has released data about the county as a whole, and how businesses are handled in relation to the 117,673 households in the county—and it looks like that equals more than $7 billion in retail sales. The partnership released data on retail sales for 2009, and has determined that the total retail sales among businesses in Somerset County is $7,475,400,007. A majority of those sales are in food and beverage facilities, with $1,356,492,015 spent. The second highest sales are for motor vehicles and parts, with a total of $1,159,820,013 spent.
