SUGAR LAND, TEXAS–The Sugar Land Skeeters (10-8, 39-49) shutout the Somerset Patriots (8-10, 43-45) 3-0 on Monday night from Constellation Field in the first game of this four game midweek series.
In the bottom of the third inning the Skeeters would score first as second baseman Dominic Ramos blasted a solo home run (8) to deep left center field.
The Skeeters took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning as left fielder Matt Hagen socked a two run double to right center field.
In the top of the ninth with two outs left fielder Jake Fox would single and designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke would follow by hitting an infield single. Shortstop Yunesky Sanchez, representing the tying run, would groundout to second base to end the game as Gary Majewski would notch his 14th save of the season.
Jason Lane tossed seven shutout innings to earn his third win of the season. Roy Merritt hurled 5.2 quality innings allowing three runs as he suffered his fifth loss of the 2012 campaign.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road until Tuesday August 7th when they return home to take on the Camden Riversharks. The game features a chance for all fans 21 years and older to Win $10,000.
