Extra-inning Home Run Dooms Patriots

The Long Island Ducks rallied in the top of the 10th inning to defeat the Somerset Patriots, 6-3, before 6,786 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Reid Gorecki drove a three-run home run (4) over the left field wall off of Patriots reliever Mike Solbach to break a 3-3 tie and give the Ducks the 6-3 lead.

Long Island scored to get on the board first in the top of the second inning. Gorecki reached on a walk, moved to second on a single by Mitch Canham, then came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Lou Santangelo.

The Patriots came back in the bottom of the third to take the lead after Dan DeGeorge singled, Joe Holden walked, then both runners came around to score on an error by Kraig Binick for the 2-1 lead.

DeGeorge ripped a two out single down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh to bring home Yunesky Sanchez and increase Somerset’s lead to 3-1.

The Ducks scored in the top of the eighth after Dan Lyons reached on an error and scored after Ray Navarrete hit into a double play to cut the lead to 3-2.

Long Island reliever Jon Hunton (2-0) got the win after tossing three scoreless innings.  Solbach (1-2) suffered the loss for Somerset, allowing four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings pitched.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue at home on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The game includes Patriots Batting Helmets for the first 2,000 fans courtesy of Wells Fargo Advisors Warren.
