Wine Cellar Builders Grab Magazine Spotlight
Wine Spectator highlights Watchung resident's two cellars.
After building a client list for wine cellars that includes "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro and Westfield's Ferraro's Restaurant, Joseph and Curtis Wine Cellars co-owner Curtis Dahl decided to update his own cellar.
Dahl and his business partner Joseph Kline have been building custom wine cellars since about 1998, with clients across the country. When Dahl looked to upgrade the cellar in his Watchung home, however, rather than tear down his existing cellar—one of the first the two men built—he decided instead to add a second cellar.
While a home with a wine cellar isn't much of an anomaly these days, having two is—enough so that Wine Spectator magazine took note and featured the story of Dahl's two cellars in its Dec. 5 issue.
"After doing so many of these for clients, I kind of took the aspects that I liked from all different jobs and put them into my house," Dahl is quoted in the article "Doubling Up." "There are more and more people adding what I call ‘adult play rooms,' where there's a tasting room and a wine cellar, and people just go in there to relax and slow life down a bit."
The article reports Dahl installed a 16-by-9 foot cellar on the main floor of his home, which holds nearly 1,400 bottles. A nearby tasting table helps complete the set-up, which he told the magazine is used for entertaining while his main cellar in the basement is aimed at longer-term storage for choice bottles in his growing collection.
