Tennis Courts May Launch Borough Fundraising Program
Watchung nearly set to test community foundation for repairing municipal courts.
The paperwork is in, and soon, Watchung Borough officials expect to have the IRS taxpayer ID number number that confers tax exempt status for the new Watchung Community Foundation.
Once the ID number is in hand, fundraising to rebuild the municipal tennis courts will be launched. According to Borough Councilwoman Karen Cassidy, the cost to rebuild the court, add fencing and raise it level the courts better, is expected to be $120,000—fundraising efforts will continue to February, when the Borough Council will determine how much to kick in from open space and recreation trust funds.
Cassidy updated the council on the plans at the Sept. 27 meeting, along with resident David Mobus, who has been helping organize a possible committee to lead the fundraising.
The courts have been unavailable for residents use for two years.
"I truly believe this is something we need to move forward on," Councilman Bill Nehls said.

More fundraising to make ends meet? How much money has the Friends of the Library raised over the last four years? What is next, standing on the corners with tin cans. Where is the tax money going?

Hi, I don't play tennis. Maybe a would. A great way to raise money is to offer free lessons for a donation!
