Rolling Stones Confirm Secret Performances in Jersey
According to guitarist Keith Richards, the group spent a week in New York and Weehawken in May, playing some of their greatest hits for a documentary honoring the band's 50th anniversary.
If you were sitting bumper-to-bumper on the Helix heading into the Lincoln Tunnel in May and thought you heard the strains of "Gimme Shelter" in the distance—it may not have been the guy in the car two lanes over listening to Q104's classic rock.
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards told Rolling Stone magazine that the group spent a week in early May in New York City and at a studio in Weehawken, playing some of their greatest hits while the session was recorded by a video crew for a documentary honoring the group's 50th anniversary.
There were rumors at the time that the Stones were up to something, given that Jagger was hosting Saturday Night Live, but he ended up performing with the Foo Fighters, Jeff Beck and Arcade Fire (see video).
Some fan sites claimed the group was at Tangerine Mastering in Weehawken, but Richards did not mention where the performances took place.
Richards also told Rolling Stone there's a chance the group will play at least one live concert this year, to mark their 50th anniversary.

The Stones are horrible anyway. Gaggle of 70 year olds playing awful music, and fools will pay 200 beans a ticket just to say " I saw the Stones !!!! ". Early to mid 70's - I get it ( sort of ). 2012 - you gotta be kidding me.

Never got the broad appeal of the Stones. Aways seemed to be 100s of better bands putting out more interesting music. Sseemed like just some sort of a safe choice of watered down R&B soul music for white suburban types to glom on to. If there's a Stones song I like it was no doubt released before 1972.

I agree Steve - Not sure when " Monkey Man " was released, but that song is great. The remainder of their library is all stuff borrowed from old R& B bands, and they are sloppy doing it. My opinion.

It is interesting that you think the Stones are just a mediocre group yet they are still selling them out after what 5 decades? Maybe you had to be there and not a part of the Seinfeld/Friends Generation of Mediocrity and all that came after. Nothing about nothing except self.

Great live band. I must admit though, that they have been putting out the same album for years as an excuse to go on tour.

There's only one Stones song that could possibly apply to NJ: Sympathy for the Devil.

The Stones are widely considered to be a Top 5 R&R band of all-time. In every imaginable poll on R&R bands, they always finish in the top 5 - sometimes they are 3rd, others they are 5th, but they are always in the top 5. Perhaps they are not your taste, but to the "majority", they are great.

You must be dead if you can stand still when Shattered comes on. But I have a special place for The Last Time from 1965, when I was sneaking my two transistor radio under my pillow and couldn't get enough of the British Invasion.

Love the Stones! Have seen them multiple times but can honestly say that not one song reminds me of Jersey. I wonder how many Sprinsteen or Bon Jovi songs give the fine folks in the UK a warm feeling for their country. I'd be interested in seeing this documentary, though.

Whether you are stoned or not everyone does not like the Stones. I am not really a fan; I did like the Birthday Cake album. I never cared for Jagger strutting his stuff on stage and now that's he's an old man it really doesn't work anymore.
funny haha

the millions of $'s they bring in everynight would argue that an old man strutting his stuff still works pretty well.

The Stones were far better before Brian Jones died - when they played the blues.

We only have so much time on earth, so why listen to the louche Stones when the likes of Bach and Itzhak Perlman have gifted us with such sublimity?
