Milstein Moves Board Resignation to June 25
Or, possibly, the day after she turns in an appraisal form.
Watchung Board of Education member Shelly Milstein moved the date of her resignation to the board from Aug. 4 to June 25, with board members accepting the change at Tuesday's board meeting in the Valley View School library.
Milstein tendered her resignation earlier this year because of plans to move out of the district.
After the change was voted on, board President Charles Neiss said members would vote to add Tiffany Brigante to fill Milstein's seat at the next board meeting. Milstein's term expired this year, so Brigante will fill the seat until Dec. 31—she has filed to run for a three-year term on the board in the November election.
Voters will fill three, three-year terms in November, the other two seats held by Rhea Williams and John Malchow (appointed May 29 to fill Mary Lou DiRosa's term).
Jim Rhyner, appointed to fill the seat vacated by Wendy Robinson in October 2011, also filed to run for a three-year seat. Georgia Glasser-Nehls filed to seek the remaining year of the Robinson-Rhyner term; she ran for a seat in 2011, but was not elected.
As for Milstein, she may not get away so easily: the board has set a retreat for July 2, which includes a required self-appraisal of the board buy members. Neiss told Milstein he wanted her to participate in the self-appraisal, to which she quipped, "What date is my resignation effective?"
"The day after you send your self-appraisal," Neiss replied.
