Outages Drop as JCP&L Adds More Manpower

Utility company expects most customers will be restored by Saturday evening.

An increase in manpower will help JCP&L restore most New Jersey outages by Saturday evening, according to a statement released Friday afternoon.

An additional 1,200 line workers joined the nearly 7,000 workers already on the ground in New Jersey on Friday.

After winter storm Athena caused JCP&L's power outage numbers to increase by more than 100,000 from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, both the company and Gov. Chris Christie have said Sunday should bring the state's residents relief.

JCP&L reported Friday at noon that 163,309 of its nearly 1.1 million customers were without power. However, that number dropped to 110,468 by Friday night at 10 p.m.

Municipalities in Patch's coverage area in Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Passaic and Warren counties continued to see a large number of homes without power, especially Bernards Township, Warren, Hopatcong and Long Valley.

The following were reports from JCP&L and PSE&G:

Anthony, Kinnelon is mostly served by Butler Electric (also known as Butler Power & Light) and not JCP&L, which is likely why that number is so low. You're right that nearly the entire town, and the those that surround it, are without power.

Here we go again-JCP&L once again, thumbing their nose at western Morris County-this is the THIRD time we are out in 5 years due to the freak, once in a generation, October storms. We are out on average of 5 days-no heat, no water, no electricity or cable. We were out with Irene, we are out in the summer, winter-we've been told every excuse in the book. yeah I know it was a catastrophic storm I get it but how is it that others always get restored before we do? They ask us to be patient? We have not seen 1 truck in the hackettstown, mt olive or washington township area all day. Where are they? Our town has done an AMAZING job of clearing the roads, but no trucks... We have family on the eastern part of the state-nutley, westwood, etc. they were out for hours, NOT days... does JCP&L care?

I live in Chester Township and have been out of power since Sunday night. No fireplace and no generator :-( IT WAS GETTING SUPER COLD IN THE HOUSE. Well, turns out my parents in Woodbridge got their power back up yesterday thanks to their PSE&G electric service. So my family and I are there now. I do want to share with the group here that my husband and I drove through Mendham, Morristown, East Hanover, and Randolph this morning. We did happen to see a police car parked on a street next to Parks Farm on Rte 24...I can't imagine who would be speeding today with all the trees that have fallen. Hardly any of the towns have power and we found no gas stations with gas, most weren't even open. Randolph and Chester clearly look like they got his the worst with fallen trees and power lines. So many road closures. We saw only ONE service truck and it was in Peapack...the truck was from Ohio. I did see before though that DELTA gas station in Chester on Rte 24 had gas!!!!! Long line but they were selling gas!!!!

what does JCP and L do the other 360 days a year? Not one truck all week seen in dover, randolph, victory gardens, mendham, chester, roxbury ... is it still in business? and why not put utilities underground as part of a 15 or 20 year project? would save a lot of money, and time, and heartache...we look like a third world country once again that is falling apart fast

Come on JCPL - are you kidding me? Stop the complaining and GET to work - Newark is up and running under PSEG's watch while we continue to increase outages on the JCPL map. I don't underestimate the effort and value the work the line workers do, but the leadership and management of this company is severely lacking! Quit the excuses and get the job done - we certainly pay enough in electric rates that we deserve service at any cost!

Don't think PSEG is all that great. They are not. In the past 10 years, everytime my power has gone out, they have made promises on restore dates, and they NEVER have it restored when they say they will. They jump on Newark, Jersey City, Hoboken, because they can boost their numbers by getting a couple of apartment complexes up. While they ignore a street that may have 10-15house. Last Oct they left us without power for 2 weeks, while claiming they had restored power to everyone.

The biggest issue with JCPL is they are very poor communicators. You cannot get a straight answer over the phone, on line, or in the press. And when they do tell you something it is invariably incorrect. This same problem exists when things are normal and you simply call to get information or ask a question. If they could be trusted to be accurate, open and honest, perhaps so many people wouldn't be angry. I believe they are working the issue but without trustworthy information about status, their efforts appear to be nil.

One thing I learned from living in jersey is that all of yous want everything now, yous cant wait for anything or try to understand anything. Ive called plenty of times to JCP&L and they have provided awesome customer service and realible information, I was nice to them. I didnt yell or disrespect them like some of you have.

JCP&L is a complete joke. The entire management team of that inept company ought to be given pink slips immediately. While I understand this was a catastrophic event, they had two of these last year to improve their processes and become more effective in responding. After all their promised improvements, here we go again. Our local politicians are also to blame. They are all weak and useless in fighting for their constituents against JCP&L. Pathetic.

Having worked for another kind of utility I know how hard folks work in a crisis. It's not the folks out their busting their butts people are upset with. The absolutely poor job of communicating with the public is most of the problem. The credibility of the company is always subject to criticism when things don't go fast enough for people sitting in freezing homes. But, bad news or good, honest and accurate information and complete...I say complete....information and not parsed, double speak PR jazz would make things better. The communication from JCPL ranges from simply wrong to inaccurate and, I believe, just plain purposely vague information seems to be the rule, not the exception. They also need to get a community relations leader who is competent in crisis management.

No one is blaming the line workers here folks - we know they are the real heroes here. The ones to blame are JCPL management and their poor leadership. It is simply inexcusable to have this happen again - dealing with this type of catastrophe should be trained for, planned for, and not waited on until it happens to then assess how to act. I don't believe for a minute all the press and hype that JCPL was ready and learned from Irene and the October snowstorm - their marketing firm did a great job. It is also deplorable that consumers have zero choice when it comes to electricity suppliers - I would gladly take PSEG over JCPL anyday!

PSEG was able to restore 300,000 customers by fixing only 3 substations in Newark, accounting for the big dent in their numbers. Given the scope of the damage out there, anyone complaining already is just whining or venting. As uncomfortable and annoying as this historic emergency may be, be grateful if you still have a roof over your head or havent suffered serious injury to life or property and try to wait your turn with some grace. If your power's not back in 7-10 days like they've predicted, complain then.

One substation can affect thousands. Getting that one substation fixed makes a big difference. Look at the heavily treed areas - that work is a lot more time-consuming, requiring police, tree folks, etc., not to mention waiting for poles, transformers, wiring, etc. My guess is the hours:results ratio is much better in cities than wooded areas.

When we look at the overall infrastructure. Those overhead cables should be buried so that we don't have to face this again in say 5 years time or so, because you know it will one day. Lets start thinking long term, start putting the cables under the highways and sidewalk instead of overhead, then the next time a tree falls ,,,well do I need to say it. I personally will willingly pay a surcharge for this, another 10% over the next 5-10 ten years to have heat and light, and not have to listen to those freakin home generators.

I think we need a reality check here. Maybe some statistics on the number of poles downed by the storm, number of substations under water, and the number of transformers and distribution lines requiring repair, as examples, may be helpful to the "informed" and "uniformed". I agree with many of the comments on this forum, but my guess is that the amount of work required to get things back to the way they were prior to Sandy still has not been completely assessed in terms of manpower and materials needed for restoration. Noone could have planned for such devastation. I've been without powere since Sunday as well. From the little I've seen in the Washington Township area of Morris County, I'm not betting that we will have power back in a week from now. It's going to be weeks. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suggest we all start hoping for the best, but plan for a long haul.

If this place is this much of a riot after 2 days without power, it'll be amazing to see what it's like a week from now when many people still don't have it back. When these systems are initially installed, the planning and design goes months if not years, lead time for equipment can be 16 weeks or more, and the labor time to install is not insignificant. Then a storm the likes of which the region hasn't seen in a hundred years (forget about Irene and the snowstorm, this beats the pants off both) hits the area, decimates the infrastructure, and everyone is screaming when the power isn't back on the next day.

Top to bottom, the regional utility employees are working 18+ hour days. Hundreds of crews are heading to NJ from upstate NY and other areas. But the labor is only one piece of the puzzle. When a substation that took a year to plan and design the first time gets flooded or trees fall on it and wreck the components inside, the linemen are supposed to magically be able to fix it in 24 hours while also obtaining the specialized components needed to rebuild it and maybe if they're lucky, have enough time to make sure the thing won't blow up again as soon as it's re-energized with 30k+ volts.

It's not surprising if you haven't seen crews on your street or your part of town this soon after the storm. While the crews are trying to get substations and transmission lines back up that serve thousands, they are not going to be fixing individual streets and houses.

No one is turning away non-union workers. Get your facts straight. There was one incident mis-interpreted and completey blown out of proportion. My brother-in-law is here working, he is a non-union worker from Michigan (fact). Under the circumstances they are doing the best they can to get everything up and running. We have been told a multitude of times that they will work on what brings the most up first. Unfortunately part of the down side of living in beautiful "remote" area is your power won't be brought back first but it will be brought back.. Yes, it is annoying to have no power but really, is it the end of the world???? Get a grip and suck it up! You too, will survive (thankfully).

Does anyone know if there is a targeted list of what the crews are focusing on restoring? i.e. in which townships or even neighborhoods within which townships in order of priority.

It would be great if we knew what areas were being prioritized - so that we could all try to plan...sticking it out or jumping to a nearby town with power...

I'm not sure if JCP&L has a real order of what counties they're attending to first. I have no confidence in how they manage anything. If they do have an order of what counties they are attending to they are not sharing it with customers because it will cause outrage. My biggest concern is the cold for everyone, but I'm not hopeful power will be restored in less than a week. My friend in Howell, NJ (that's SOUTH jersey) also got her power restored yesterday by her PSE&G Electric.

Trees and lines are down ALL OVER THE STATE in EVERY TOWN. They ALL look like your block/town. There are 4 houses on my block that have trees IN them, not to mention the 4 trees on the power lines. And every one I know has the same thing on their street. The JCP&L people are trying to get up their substations ( with there own tree and water issues) and are working on clearing the NJ transit lines so Mass transit can get going, which I guarantee is higher on the priority list than any residential neighborhood. Once that is done they will start working on downed trees and powerlines. Over 90% of all JCP&L customers lost power, It is going to take WEEKS to get it all back.

If you only have no power, you are lucky, you should be thankful. There are tons of people who lost so much and would give anything to only be worried about being cold for a few days. Stop complaining, be patient and get some perspective.

Come on, they had since Tuesday to start! The weather has been fine since then. How much "assessing" do you need to clear trees off the road?? And to whomever said to stop whining about having a cold house, you try having an autoimmune disease that makes you cold all the time and to then have no heat or water in your house and nowhere to go. The high school said pets were allowed in crates and there would be three meals a day; instead people with pets are turned away and all they have to offer is coffee and water. Just because we were warned power could be out over a week doesn't make it acceptable. Hey look, if it were 70 degrees outside I could wait it out longer but with a toddler it's hard. The fact that JCP&L's communication sounds good at first read but is still super vague is what is getting everyone so mad. Let's see if when this is over they share their real list with us. For all I know they could be handling this like a damn deli counter and the loudest town gets help first.

Patience? Assessment my #^¥&. JCPL should have a dashboard map of their entire territory and should instantly know which grid station is down and why.

Their latest status was written by a middle school drop-out. A lot of words "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing". A lot of verbosity and no information. I am shocked that the Governor and Mayors are buying this nonsense.

We should all be in front of JCPL offices. Give power to food places and to gas stations first. Who is in charge of this "repair effort"--the 3 stooges?

Stories about chopper rides should be fed to the bears. As soon as a line is down the map should light up and a truck dispatched

Set up concentric circles --and provide data
To the public about number of grid stations down and number of lines down. First Energy and JCPL should be able to redirect power through the grid and get it to a majority of the nodes within minutes and hours not weeks

NJ's power grid resembles a third world dump's slum areas. Most the newer cities in underdeveloped countries do not have the unsightly power lines on old wooden wooden poles. Ever heard of power lines under the earth son that they don't break when trees fall on them. Check out CA or VA

If JCPL doesn't bring NJs power grid into the 21st century the state should cancel their ability to do business in NJ and give it to someone who can

They buy time when they tell customers they have to 'call in' where the lines are down, it's 2012 come on. "Bury the lines underground" - who's paying the $1 million or more per mile to do that? (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/07/25/why-most-cities-dont-bury-power-lines/)

"The power company should just be able to reroute power wherever they need to in order to make it work" - this isn't the movies, the entire US is running on decrepit infrastructure that nobody wants to spend the money to upgrade. When people raise holy hell about the most minuscule increase on their bill, how are companies going to raise the billions of dollars needed to modernize the power grid? "The government should make them!" "Keep the government out of private business!" "Let the market take care of it!" People can't make up their mind. The problem goes way beyond JCP&L and PSE&G, it's a national epidemic that won't be cured unless there is a serious shift toward funding infrastructure improvements in the US.

"Mandate that gas stations have generators" - great suggestion now, but if it was suggested two weeks before the storm it would have been called the government grossly overstepping its bounds and imposing even more costs on businesses and customers (Plus that $2000 estimate is more like $5000-$10000 for a legally installed generator with the capacity to back up all the pumps, lights, etc.

"Give us a map with detail down to the house on when we'll get power back!" - so that when you're not restored at 5:57 like the map said, you can scream even louder?

Why is it the numbers in either these reports or those reported by JCPL make sense.

40% of affected customers restored?

971K highest
756K lowest
22%

If JCPL is reporting this number, why isn't the press fact checking? I have no power and I can check that face.

Ok, so I am just curious why the timelines that JCP&L had promised are still not communicated anywhere? I think at one point the BPU needs to get involved in this disaster. I am absolutely not mad about the workers out in the field but the corporate tools should really DO THEIR JOB and communicate where (in which county and which section) the workers are currently working and some proper timelines!! I mean the 7-10 day projection started counting on what exact day? That's really a moving target. So yes, I heard next Wednesday MOST customers will have power........well why not lay out on which part of the grid people are on so that we can see and know who should get power next ?? And one more thing - if JCP&L had not moved everything out of the state then obviously they would not have to make such a POINT of mentioning over and over that workers have to come in from out of state to help restore power. Duh!!

We couldn't be more happy with JCP&L this time around. I think they have definitely adapted from last year.

Irene = 4.5 days no power
Snowtober = ~6 days no power
Sandy = 3 days no power

I do feel bad that some people reading this might still be out, but have hope that maybe this time the outages will be shorter than whatever it was for you last time.

Lot's of folks on this string are wagging their fingers at others for complaining about being without power. I'm sure there is not one person that is not thankful for their circumstances being only due to a power outage if that is the case. Nevertheless, it is cold out and getting colder, and not having the basics for survival, heat and water, makes life exceptionally difficult and dangerous depending on the situation. Bottom line, if JCP&L communicated better, communicated any detail of their recovery plan outside of a broad statement of most by Nov 7, those hardest hit another week and then others still longer, I would guarantee folks would feel better. However, in the absence of that communication we all are forced to assume there isn't a plan and if there is, it isn't a well laid plan. I would be relieved to hear some honesty and forthrightness about the situation, I'm sure others would too.

Those people wagging their fingers are the ones with power, and they don't get it! When the power company shuts off their power for a week, then they'll understand! If you aren't living it, don't preach to us about complaining! We have a right! The power companies are sitting on their hands right now, waiting for help from out of state that isn't coming because NJ has turned them away. They are not union employees, so they won't be helping!

Nordrom Keni and TL are obviously JCPL employees. HR needs to take notice of their abuse to the clients who pay for their salaries. I am going to report Keni to JCPL after we get power. Name calling doesn't achieve your objectives or add to the discourse! Grow up!

Shame on you Keni!

Does JCPL have a plan to start burial of cables. It has one million customers. If it attaches a $1 surcharge per month that's $12 million per year. A multiple of that eiuld take care of things in five years or so. Do it more efficiently than the nimbers you quoted. New areas must be mandated to have buried cable. We lost $50 billion in his storm--not counting the business losses. There is a ROI on this! Duh!

Gas stations should e allowed to charge an extra
Nicle till their generators are paid off.

Where is the plan Christie? Where is the oil Obama?

$12 million per year buries 6-12 miles of overhead lines per year depending on location and what the ground is like. In 5 years you'll have spent $60 million and buried 30-60 miles of lines. Hardly making a dent in the total JCP&L territory.

"Do it more efficiently" -yeah, find a way to dig up all those roadsides and bury the lines without having to worry about traffic control, excavation, underground conduit, insulated high voltage wire, switches, fuses, concrete, safety codes, working with Verizon, Cablevision, etc. Just figure out a way.

Once the lines are buried, they are more difficult and expensive to perform regular maintenance on, so you can tack on another surcharge to maintain the underground lines. What was a simple switch mounted on top of a pole becomes a large steel enclosure on a concrete pad in somebody's yard, which they'll undoubtedly complain about. Each transformer that was on a pole becomes another steel box in somebody's yard, which they'll undoubtedly complain about. If cable and phone go underground, that's 2 more boxes to complain about. And you get to dig up every homeowner's yard to replace the lines to their house, on whose dime?

Then, if there is a problem with the line, you are digging it up to replace it, again at a greatly increased cost. And time/cost to repair problems increase dramatically when the lines aren't accessible.

There's no be all end all solution for all this. That's why these are called natural DISASTERS.

The reason why we are all complaining JCP&L is when I see a simple fix and it's not done! I see the tree on the next block hanging over wires that is what caused our neighborhood outage. If they just got the tree off and turned on the transformer we would have power and then we would be able to help others who are worse off!

Just to clarify - the story was that the Seaside Heights Municipal Authority (the town supplies their own power) sent the Alabama crew away.

JCP&L has said that they using any union or non-union worker that is willing to help and they've essentially told their unions guys to suck it up because this is a "all hands on deck" effort to restore power.

And before I get pounded for being an apologist or anything like that. I do agree that JCP&L should get their 'stuff' together. I'm in Hillsborough and our power is out every time there is a strong storm. We go out every 1 - 1.5 months for anywhere from 1-6 hours. No power, no water and that is in 'non-diasters'. I never had this problem when I was in PSEG territory, so I can't imagine what the dern problem is.

But having said that, I did want to clear up the misdirected anger at JCP&L for the AL crew thing.

"Has anyone seen any JCPL crews working around Windmill pond in MoTown? I'm one of the few houses in windmill pond that doesn't have power."

Meg, look down the street towards 287... There are 4 or 5 poles down in the road. While I heard that they repaired the issues by the tennis courts (can you confirm this?) and by the edge of Foote's Pond (can you also confirm this?), I don't think they've touched stuff further down. I'm betting the people over on Sherwood are out as well, and obviously the development Cottonwood, etc. It would be very nice if JCP&L could get everyone on "our" side of that area with the downed poles running, but it's probably a very low priority. Last year my place an half the Sherwood Ct. condos were out for 3-4 extra days because they "missed" one of the 4 lines on the poles...

Anyhow, again, if you could confirm all the damage from your place back up James towards Morristown has been fixed, *I'd* appreciate knowing that, as I'm staying out of town and can't see for myself. FYI, power lines are the top set of wires on the poles. On James, it's a grouping of four. If any of those four are not intact, there's your problem. :) Keep reporting your outage - 888-LIGHTSS - I re-reported mine today and they claimed I was not already in the system even though I called it in the night of the storm.

CSS- saw that. Called them about every downed line. The person on the line said they had all 4 that I called about. Apparently they are supposed to restore 22% more percent by tomorrow in Motown. Wonder if that's true. They won't tell me which line is contributing to my outage. They don't have that info. Seems like something the electricity company should knkow? I am staying with family in a pseg area who got their lights yesterday. This morning I've seen 17 trucks go by for that company. Since sandy hit till yesterday hadn't seen 1 single crew from jcpl in my neighborhood.

POWER UPDATE:
The power companies have advised that hospitals (which are now complete), police, fire and municipal complexes, shelters, school districts, etc. and then remaining residential and commercial customers will be restored in that order.

PSE&G has advised that full restoration to Somerset County is anticipated on or by November 11, 2012.

JCP&L has advised that full restoration to the area will be on or before November 12, 2012.

Day 5 and we are seeing little to no action on power restoration in Hopatcong. I understand that this was a huge storm and can accept that we are out of power. What I am having a problem with is the lack of information we are getting from JCP&L and our local town officials. It has to be more at this point than just trees down around town. If we were being provided with more than "We hope to have power restored by next Wednesday" it would allow residents to make plans to get out of town. I called Gov. Christie's office and asked for help with getting in touch with a human at JCP&L. I would ask that everyone who is reading this to call his office and ask to get more information from JCP&L and to start to acknowledge that there are other areas in the state that were affected by Sandy also. A crew from Asplund arrived today to remove two trees but were waiting on JCP&L to arrive on scene to discharge live wires. Granted, many have suffered worse, but we expect the power companies to react and respond during a crisis. Clearly evident JCP&L failed miserably. Morristown mayor and council members have done nothing to aid those in need of assistance. Shameful!!!

@Inthedarkstill - Totally agree, I remember this same thing last year. There are still a few good things about having a list like this though... I think most importantly It gives your town officials something to hold over JCP&L's head (Morris Township seemed to do a good job of using these numbers to push them last year), it gives us at least some idea that JCP&L is actually vaguely aware of what's hosed (especially when they start doing the street-by-street estimates), it motivates people to call and report (and I think it's very important to re-report periodically to ensure you're counted as without power), and I think it ends up sorting out issues where the town and JCP&L don't agree on who's responsible for what as far as clearing trees and such.

That's not to say that some of the numbers are complete bulls**t, mind you, but overall I'm happy to see at least some sign of organization.

We really need to push our elected officials to drive measurable performance out of our utilities. There should be metrics such as # of poles restored by day, # of trees on lines removed, # of miles of cable re-strung. The overall house number is misleading and does not show the true performance of PSEG vs. JCPL. Anectodally, JCPL is far worse than PSEG.

It is an outrage that the utility crews are staying at a single location long enough to actually fix the problem. Instead, they should be driving around from one downed pole to another, staying just long enough for people to see that they are out there doing something.

Haven't seen one truck in Long Valley from JCP & L ..just 2 tree removal crews on Flocktown. Wondering how long this will go on ..it's hard to believe people's power is being restored here when we haven't seen 1 crew. When I sit and calculate how much money JCP&L makes per household in our county alone ...it's mind boggling to me that we don't have more efficient info. from them. If you could call & they could tell you "well, from your address I see that after the initial assessment, the line you are on had several poles down. They repaired this, this & this. They are waiting for these parts to finish that then you should have power " ..I just want detailed info. Where I work, I expect detail from the engineers when our x-ray equipment goes down. I get a detailed list, what needs to be fixed & when i should expect it to work & a time when parts are arriving. As high paying customers in one of the most densely populated highest taxes paying state in the union..we deserve real info. I called the other day & the person I spoke with said "well, the newspaper said you will get power back by 7-10 days" Newspaper ? Wow ...we should demand more from this billion dollar company.

If anyone is in need of fire wood we have a lot from our downed trees. It's precut to fireplace size just come to 45 Quail Run in Long Valley off of Flocktown. Just back your truck up on the side yard and pick it up. As much as you can carry for free.

Here is a summary of this weekend’s restoration work schedule:

Hudson County
-- PSE&G has been working to restore the substations serving Jersey City and Bayonne and believe it will be able to restore service to over 85% of those cities’ customers on today if all goes well. PSE&G crews and out of state crews will be working there all weekend.
-- We expect the vast majority of customers in Union City and West New York by Saturday evening.
-- Of the 306,900 customers in Hudson County, 225,480 lost electricity. As of Saturday morning, 99,400 were still without power.
-- In Hoboken, the extensive flooding is preventing us from repairing three of the substations that serve the town. It will take an extended period of time to restore service. We are working with FEMA to get generators to strategic locations in Hoboken as soon as possible to provide some relief while we continue to work to repair severely damaged and flooded substations.
-- We have restored the Exxon and Hess refineries.

Essex County
-- Of the 346,260 customers in Essex County, 251,000 customers lost electricity. As of Saturday morning, 122,400 customers remained out of service.
-- We have restored service to 65% of the customers in Newark and will be working in the city all weekend.
-- Crews will be also be focusing on Irvington, West Orange, Montclair, East Orange, Bloomfield, Maplewood, Orange and Belleville this weekend..

-- Crews will be focusing on Teaneck, Englewood, Ridgewood, Fort Lee, Paramus, Bergenfield, Palisades Park, New Milford, River Edge, Glen Rock, Tenafly, Hackensack, Lodi and Bogota this weekend.

Passaic County:
-- Of the 173,000 customers in Passaic County, 87,000 lost electricity. As of Saturday morning, 53,000 remained without power.
-- Crews will be focusing on Paterson, Clifton, Passaic and Wayne this weekend.
-- Power was lost night to part of Totowa as a result of an accident that took out a pole.

Union County:
-- Of the 192,340 customers in Union County, 177,860 lost electricity. As of Saturday morning, 73,000 remained without power.
-- Crews will be focusing on Elizabeth, Union, Plainfield, Linden and Westfield this weekend. Work in Elizabeth and Union also will continue into Monday.

JCP&L has a PDF on their website with their aspirations for Sunday at midnight. For people in Morris Township, it doesn't look good. 29 people on Friday. 269 on Saturday and about a 1000 on Sunday. Their hope after 6 days is to have 22% restored. Niiice....

I think we as citizens should put pressure on our township leadership to try and get rid of JCP&L, which is a company that investment bankers created. The "synergies" of creating the large corporation are exactly what we get now; fewer crews that know the area and infrastructure, and less re-investment in the existing infrastructure.

I live in Montville Township. From the links that have kindly been provided here, it seems that about half our town has power, if they can be believed. If you don't have power (and I don't) it is hard to be patient, but we all have to realize there are many who have it much worse.

There are a few things that do irk me:

1. no sight of any JCP&L crews working in our town. We lost power Monday night. Where are they? Do they not have enough employees? Have they not received out of state assistance? Do they not have parts? What is the reason our streets are not full of emergency workers?
2. live wires and trees wrapped together still unremoved and affecting traffic patterns
3. minimal, if any, information from JCP&L. If the company is having trouble delivering to it's customers, then tell us. Be frank. Sometimes the truth hurts but it is better than being left in the dark (no pun intended). They should be informing each town it's individual and detailed status.
4. minimal, if any, information from our town council and mayor. Yes, there is a website with 'daily' updates. We now have a flashing light on the side of town that has power (????) that says 'power restored in 7-10 days', whatever that means.

I hear some towns have telephone updates via phone calls, or are even using twitter or facebook. This is a time where people are concerned and would appreciate any form of communication.

Is anyone pressing JCP&L to fix this mess quickly?

As equally bad as JCPL performance has been Washington. Township officials have also under performed. Major roads are still closed JCPL not only is non active the town has been color coded orange in priority versus red. We need officials who hold
JCPL accountable. If they can't meet the standard revoke the franchise . Town ordinances need to be passed that set standards for tree clearing all lines, redundant sources of power and penalties for non compliance.

Office need to appear at BPU meetings and demand accountability.

I heard the number was supposed to be 1900 and the only power that I see in the whole town is at the stores and the fire department. Something is wrong with this picture the stores arent where people live. It would be nice to have heat, hot water, and yeah power that is not provided 5 gallons of gas at a time in the generator. All the same downed trees, all the same closed roads, JCP&L needs to stop trying to boost their numbers for the Governor and start living in reality. So you fixed power for 11 businesses, how about the throusands of homes with power that really need it? Get busy stop making excuses why you cant fix it and start thinking of ways you can fix it.

SP

WOW!! Even the restoration plans given by JPC&L are inferior to those given by PSE&G and even ACE. Both PSE&G and ACE give actual a breakdown of the number still without power and date on which those towns should be served as well as an update verifying those areas have been assigned. JCP&L only supply a number.

They are staging to get their marching orders, they send them out to do a job, not to willy mildly approach the problem. Given the state of affairs on Tuesday , this effort is nothing short of miraculous. The logistical problems alone were staggering, to have this result in such a short period of time speaks well of the utility company effort. Whining such as displayed here does not speak well of our ability to cope.

I did see a JCP&L truck behind the Starbucks though. Hopefully, he was just grabbing a cup of coffee before heading out to turn our power on.

Do the math. Both power companies have about 450K in customers left. They are both restoring at the rate of about 100K/day. While they are getting more and more assistance, the circuits they are restoring are bound to be getting smaller and smaller, reducing the restore rate per repair.

If one assumes the run rate per day stays about 100K per utility (optimistic) then at least 200K of you have another 4 - 5 days wait.

You don't see trucks because they can't be everywhere at the same time. Using words like unacceptable is not going to change the math. Sorry.

For those with small children, elderly, etc. I would suggest you find/buy/borrow some good thermal sleeping bags. We opened one up and used it as a quilt on our bed. It's toasty warm now...

Warren's timeline keeps saying "Wednesday Nov 7", because that's when JCP&L intends to return to town and actually do more work here. They got the center of town up and running days ago, no problem. Then they disappeared. So don't believe their lies about "needing to fix substations in other towns" or "the heavy duty lines are damaged in the hills.". Really? Then how did you get the whole Warren town center up with those same problems still in play? Also, if JCP&L are indeed adding more and more workers to the workforce, why isn't their timeline shortening?

I am in Jefferson twsp still mostly down and I know with the impending storm projected for Wed. &Thurs. Even if we are up power will go down again. I understand there is much work to do but I loose power at least 5 times a year, why? cause there are so many trees threating the power lines, I guess no one does assessments of the system during times of good weather. Now out to venture for gas yet again. Oh BTW our Gov needs to stop stating the abvious and get better results after all he speaks as if he is some sort of king.

I am sick and tired of everyone patting themselves on the back for a job well done -----it is a complete joke that we are still without power 7 days later. I am so tired of hearing the governor and JCP&L feel so good about the job they are doing. It doesn't make me feel any better and to be perfectly honest just pisses me off a bit more. The reality is as follows: The are working 24 hours a day ---complete myth. I drove through all the streets not one crew working on the issues. Plenty of downed wires, plenty of downed trees but not one crew working --come on Gov. didn't you tell us that they were working so hard!!! Gas - go south in Jersey and there are no lines - why they get their gas from the same place -- because they have power!!!!! Only 40% of stations in the north are up and running -- can anyone say generator????? Supposed to be the worst storm in history (which it could very well be) and no real preparations with the exception of evacuations was done by the governor. mr. Can anyone explain this:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, it seems to be pretty clear that residents of New York City and the surrounding areas could use all the help they can get.

However, a Davisburg man said some people in the area are more interested in “protecting their turf” than in distributing those supplies to the masses.

Mike James, an independent trucker, said he and three other truckers were told to haul a load of transformers to the city to replace equipment anticipated to be lost in the storm.

James, two men from Holly and a Flint man arrived in the city Tuesday night and slept in their trucks before attempting to deliver the 144 transformers to emergency workers.
When they arrived Wednesday, they were turned away by Con Edison employees because they were not union workers.

“These transformers here, I don’t know how many lines they would power or how many homes they would power, but just the fact that they were supposed to be going to help people, and these union guys care more about protecting their turf — I got a very sour taste in my mouth about New York City people,” James said.

The transformers weren’t the only help to be turned away.

“Utility crews came up from Alabama,” James said.

“They called them scabs and sent them home. They said those people from Alabama were taking food out of their families’ mouths.”

Still no power in montville township, no power for our schools and a nor'easter is coming in a couple days. Im sure our town mayor made sure his power was up and running real fast. We have not seen any trucks in the week its been since the storm and there are utitily poles still laying on the ground. Good to see ravaged towns such as atlantic city has full power back and they made the casinos a priority so the money machine can keep churning while NJ's citizens are cold and hungry. We need to have another option besides this monopoly known as JCP&L. I hope we vote everyone doesnt forget this come election time.

It is unbelievable - and no one is saying anything. Montville is a crappy town anyways, but their support in this disaster is unbelievable. The mayor is hiding!!! It was good last night to see the soccer fields lit up and half the town out of power with absolutely no power trucks in sight. The only people I have seen are the people from Verizon --god bless them they had 5 or 10 trucks in the area yesterday. Nobody else was seen. I blame the town for lack of preparation and I completely blame the governor for not responding.

Berbards Township has 36% of JCPL's outages in Somerset county but you cannot find a JCPL truck in town. Gov Christie is big talk about holding the power companies feet to the fire, where are the results? I feel bad for the poeple who lost everything at the shore but we are tax payers also. Where are the local Bernards Twp officials??? Missing in Action. They waste thousands on mobile electronic signs to announce their events but none are out informing citizens about what is going on? He can give a great line of BS but if he was in the real business world where results mattered Christie wouldn't last a week. I am an independent voter and want to see results. This aftermath from Sandy is so mismanaged it isn't funny. The governor couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag -- who can blame him though he problem got stuck at the bottom of the bag looking for the crumbs for the special interests groups that are lining his pocket and campaign. The latest figure from PSEG as of this morning...SEVEN days after the storm, Watchung is still 80% without power, one of the only 4 municipalities in the entire state with 80%+ outage. Our two little kids are bundled up shivering in a freezing house with no electricity, no heat, no hot water, even our Verizon phone service is out. Where is the "army" of technicians and crews that PSEG promised to be working round the clock at the beginning of the storm? And Verizon said they will send a technician out on Nov 13th, are you kidding me?! For 7 straight days, I have not seen a sign of them anywhere in my town, incredible!! Someone commented how quiet Watchung residents are on this forum compared to the overwhelming responses of Millburn residents, well, that's how JCPL moved up Millburn's restoration from Nov 8th to Nov 2nd, and Millburn's mayor took the gripes directly to Governor's office. As a result, Millburn residents are all nice and warm in their homes now. Watchung residents, this is a call to action! Use whatever battery power you have remaining in your cell phone, call your elected officials, call mayor's office, call Governor's office, do something! Or we will be the last to be paid attention to!!!

The ower companies have very poor communication programs. If they would publish a daily action plan showing where they are working and what they are doing there it would help tremendously. The lack of credible information is ridiiculous and makes everybody crazy. They can't be everywhere at once- we get that. But where are they and how many of of them are there? Somebody must be managing the best process. Just explain it to us each day in some detail. Their web sites suck and are totally insufficient.

PSE&G is doing fairly well at communicating -- at least they send a daily e-mail which describes their progress for the day, and their plans for the next day.

More frustrating than the lack of power is the lack of communications from JCP&L. Daily communication is needed from them. The info on the web-site is days old, and not at all accurate.

Mr. Mayor - congrats two years in a row we're last in Morris County to have power restored. Did we not learn any lessons and did we not adapt after last years debacle? Apparently not.
Is this a substation issue or main line issue ?
Are we 'hardest hit' - so we can plan this Wed or next week?
Haven't seen a JCPL crew in 7 days lines down & trees leaning on lines on 517 - just in time for WED nor'easter
Do we have a generator for a gas station like neighboring townships have ?
Are you on twitter or Facebook - to keep us informed ?
Communication is key in a crisis
The lack of crews must mean they are diverted to a substation or higher pop. areas - well if a substation 7 days enough to repair as our surrounding township are getting back online - now with > 5200 LV still we MUST be a priority for Morris County - that is where u come in...
This is a lack of leadership & communication from Washington TWN staff & JCP&L interface. Can't wait to hear again why LV is last AGAIN - See u at the next township meeting. Semper Fi-

Utility companies are obligated to let you purchase elictricity on the open market. I switched to Ambit Energy after the last prolonged outage and my frustration with jcp&l. I save approx. 15% per month while still paying jcp&l for transmission services. We are stuck with whatever company owns the lines, etc.but you can buy the actual electricity from other companies. Doesn't get me away from jcp&l in total, but sure made me feel better to deny them revenue for the 'juice'. How else can we send them the message that we are not satisfied.

Our lines were not down, but I believe our power source was a downed transformer about 1/2 mile from us. So we actually never saw workers on our road for that scenario. It seems to be pockets of power and no-power in LV. 5 days was bad enough with no power, water or heat, so I'm sorry that many of you are still w/o. We also had a tree fall on our house and do moderate damage, no penetration though. My 63 yr old husband worked 2 days to chain saw it off the house to prevent further damage. People actually stopped and took pictures, but I found it interesting that none of them even asked if we were ok or needed help. C'est la vie....

24 degrees at sunrise - yes pipes may freeze - looks like Sat will be 60! What we have is a breakdown of key information for citizens. What we need from our local Leadership & JCPL is the big picture. For example is LV among the last again due to a substation, main line, local or a general lack of manpower ( my gut says lack of resources as lines are still down and trees still hung up on 517- great with tomorrow's nor'easter with 30mph winds)
But I digress - are we in the 'hardest hit' area? That way we know it won't be restored till next week...citizens need info to make executive decisions for their family & property. JCPL website is great to see the number of cold frustrated smelly customers- we need additional info & root cause details - JCPL has this info as they are prioritizing the deployment of their crews...we are in the dark - but keep the info flowing...

Fraud. JCPL own stats had the number of outages in Bernards Township grow by 166 on Monday from 6,660 to 6,730but they said they reduced the number by 1,205. What lies. Can't someone hold them accountable?????? Where is Gov. Christie and his friends at the power companies??? He said he would hold them accountable!!!!! Let's see???

I live in Warren and to be honest, I'm more angry with the leadership of this town than JCP & L. In their quest to keep taxes down in my Republican bastion, they refused to spend money to prune back the trees along the main roads and power lines after the past two years of storms and significant power outages. The amount of trees into power lines this time around was simply outrageous and could have been mitigated by spending a little money over the past year. I don't know about you, but after a week of no power, I think I could live with my taxes being raised 1% if it would mean avoiding this fiasco in the future.

The couple weeks before the storm, JCP&L left notices on our mailboxes that were going to be doing tree pruning around power lines. Then they came through and did it, so it might've been worse if they hadn't. There's a lot of factors in play.

Does anyone know if the Manor section of Chatham Borough has an equipment/substation problem, or is it that we don't have any crews here? Power was restored to within a block of us to the north and east last week. And then the jcp&l restoration numbers for the Borough stopped moving down at all. It was 21 degrees this morning - if there is no end in sight for the borough, I would like the utility or borough administration to tell me.

I just called the OEM to complain about the downed trees. Was told by a JCPL operator on the phone last night that since only a 100 or so homes were associated with that downed line, I shouldn't hold my breath to get power back any time soon. JCPL has numbers to post and they'll be trying to get the larger affected areas done first.

I couldn't go to town hall today to complain in person due to work...but if you're able to please do so. complaining in person will help. This is ridiculous that majority of windmill pond has had power and our few homes have been without for 8! with no trucks or crews to be seen near Headley or Ledgerwood. If you can, please go complain in person.

Like many others, I've been without power since Mon Oct. 29. I have a well, electric stove/oven, electric heat, hot water, etc. I did many things to prepare for the storm, but this power outage has lasted much longer than I was ready for. In Oct. 2011, I was without power for 8 days, this time going on 9.
Now I want to know exactly when JCP&L will decide I can have power. Just give me a date. Where is their accountability?
Patch has a lovely photo of utility trucks at the end of this article. I'm wondering where this was taken. Certainly not Long Valley.

LV Resident, do you receive a monthly bill from JCP&L? If so, please do the following:
1. Find a recent bill
2. Find the JCP&L Emergency Outage contact phone number at the top of the bill
3. Call that number
4. Ask them for a date when your power will be restored
5. Ask them again to confirm that the date is valid

From your post, it sounds like you did not follow these steps yet. WHY NOT??

I guess my luck is better than yours then. I called JCP&L three times, and each time I reached a live operator within a minute or two, no problem. If you want, you can email me your phone number through my profile on this site, and I will call you and do a conference call to bring them on the line with us, so you can talk to them. Or if you prefer, I can call them on your behalf and get a status if you want to give me your address, or phone number, or account number.

I find it interesting that New Jersey rejected assistance from out-of-state utility crews because they weren't union. These out-of-state crews drove all the way here to offer their assistance and their help was turned down. I guess it is better for us to suffer and in some cases, die, then to cross union lines in times of emergency.

I just drove through the area the township says is being worked on and only saw one lousy truck on Runnymeade. The intersection of River Road and Southern is a total disaster and the destroyed poles and downed lines run far down River toward New Providence. It will take days, days to fix the problems on River Road. We are being lied to and the mayor need only drive the Township roads to know we are being lied to - yet, she is out there shilling for the power company. The response from JCP&L is atrocious and getting dangerous for those of us without power. The only response possible is to sit this out and then sit on bill payments - you think those spineless utility bureaucrats are going to shut you off for non-payment in the aftermath of this mess? According to JCP&L's newest spread zero (0), a total of ZERO customers in Wayne are estimated to be restored today. And this may be a stupid request to the companties, they are giving estimates per day, after that day is finished, why can't they list how many people in each town were restored? I wish we would ahve purchased a home on the PSE&G side of Wayne. So the Township gives the power contract to JCP&L. Year after year they fail to provide anything resembling decent relief in the wake of these storms. Yet the very few residents who actually vote continue to re-elect the committee that gives the contract to JCP&L instead of another power company. And now those same people are without power...again...for days. Wonder if they will remember come the next election. The ONLY way to end this madness is to throw out the elected officials who are clearly in the pocket of the power company whose contract they continue to renew despite the awful service. Is it just me, or does this seem like a pretty simple connect-the-dots conclusion? You don't really believe a power company with no incentive to provide better service is going to work harder do you? Why would they when they know they will get a rubber stamp from the committee every time. If the committee hasn't fired JCP&L by now...can we expect them to do it in the future? Once the center hall colonial crowd gets the power back, this will all be forgotten...until the next storm.

And the woman I spoke to on the phone said she isn't even in New Jersey. But she understands the frustrations. The problem is, there really is no place to complain, no place to to et action done. The Govonor can only bitch on TV it isn't helping the situtation. The facts are, JCP&L were unprepared again for a storm, the company is to big and far reaching to have fast response, they have piss poor communication skills, they have no solid information going to the people and they are out of touch with reality. Look if I'm told the power is out to Next Tuesday thats fine, I can figure out a hotel or something, instead I'm strung along with this the power will be back on by Wednesday. Well not in Wayne, they will not be restoring anyone more until Thursday at the earliest. So I guess we are "the hardest hit areas" that they keep speaking of. This company is worthless, but I bet our transmission fees will go up.

Call customer service every day and let them know it is very important they fix this situation as it is a Safety issue now. It is best to call at 8AM as they are less busy at this time.
I called today and they are hoping to have everybody up in Parsippany by SAT. They should be ashamed for keeping us in the dark for so long. They should not send us a bill for this whole month or offer us a deep discount. We are losing a lot of money on gas for the generator, going out to eat everyday, hotel stays. This is a natural disaster and I understand but they are the Power experts and they should have a plan in place to keep us all safe. This is a major inconvenience. We are high paying tax customers and we do not deserve to be treated like this. Our power should have been restored long time ago. I wonder what Mayor James Barberio could do to help us. Power lines are STILL down everywhere, laying across the street. We really need to take some action to get the state to kick this corrupt company out of the state of NJ. They STILL cannot provide any estimates that are meaningful. Where is the accountability? If I don't pay my bill, I'm going to have my credit destroyed by them. The lack of information is the key frustration. Yesterday Bernards Mayor Mary Pavlini posted a letter on the township site which said she "GETS IT" but the letter is evidence she does not. It was a self serving letter that did not have one detail, not one. The lack of any details is an indication they do not get it. Residents want information, details. JCP&L has stated all week that 2,902 customers would be restored on 11/6 but their own numbers show this to be less than 1,300. Who is holding them accountable? Where are our elected officials?

Pines Lake ... now on our 10th full day with NO POWER. I believe all JCP&L service users must lobby our Governor to require this powerless power company to no longer refer to us as "customers" and be forced, instead, to call us "victims" until/unless they can prove that they do, indeed, own a pair of BIG BOY PANTS and are willing to wear them - acting, for once, like a grown-up business that understands its role & its obligation to the people who send them ungodly amounts of cash each month.

If that fails, then at least force them to call this particular service package "THE DARK AGES INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL SUPPLY AND NEGLIGENCE PACK."

It's the year 2012 and my family is living in a dark, frozen cave. The only difference between us & the neanderthals of long, long ago, is that the neanderthals lived with the hope of Darwinian progress. Honestly, what hope do we have that a large, faceless conglomerate like "First Energy" (JCP&L parent) is going to suddenly decide to take their gobs of cash profits & invest them in designing and implementing a 21st Century system of infrastructure and enhanced customer communication capabilities - especially when its so much more fun to simply keep their existing state-of-the-fart grid limping along and use that cash to create an even wider gulf between First Energy executives and the other 99% of us?

When they see us, they see SUCKERS. I can hear them now ... at their next Board Meeting ... "Let them eat frozen cake in the dark."

For those in Bernards Township, the email for the township executive committee is
townshipcommittee@bernards.org. The email for the mayor is
mpavlini@bernards.org

Let them know that having the highest number of outtages in all of JCPL's northern and western service area is justification for a large number of resources in our town. There is no activity.

We can vote for a President, but we can't turn the lights on...come on people we deserve better than that. How do the highly educated in this state continue to passively sit at home and pray for a miracle to happen? Folks, unless we rise up in record numbers and find the courage to leave our little igloo's and show up at the door steps of the powers to be responsible for this mess then nothing is going to
happen. If you think that you are going to force change by complaining on some local blog your in serious trouble. The only way to force real change is through motivation and determination.

When the estimated bill comes from JCP&L, tell them how you feel by writing a check for $1. You can not be charged for not paying the full amount if the bill is estimated.

Definitely think we should all go make signs and start a protest about this crap at city hall and in front of the governor's place. Of course it would have helped before election time even more. Also should protest in front of the PUC offices -- what the heck are they doing to hold JCP&L accountable????

The same crew at local and federal levels have been re-elected. There is no wonder why we are at the mercy of such a broken system. Even the stock market is down over 2.5% on this outlook.
Talk about the governor, Mendham was fully restored by Wed of last week. Face it, Washington twp is politically unimportant and we have no influence on anything. Our local taxes will continue to escalate and, to literally add insult to injury, JCPL RATES WILL RISE DUE TO THE FIRST CLASS RESTORATION EFFORT THAT SO MANY ARE EXPERIENCING.

Perhaps the best defense we citizens have towards the JCP&L restoration debacle is to go on the offensive towards JCP&L Board of Directors. Publish their names along with the most negative complaint from the paying customers.

You must escalate the complaint in front of the JCP&L Board, disgrace them publicly so as to attempt to damage the company's market share. Hit the company and the Board where it really hurts - the market, their investor relations, and their profits.

Our local reporters and our local politicians should gather together and show some backbone to initiate this kind of offense and force JCP&L/ Board of Directors to be accountable. Utility companies should not be operating with old, mismatched, outdated electrical parts, transformers, not enough poles, old wires, etc., and yet reap in profits at our expense.

How can JCP&L be leaving all the families and elderly without power for this long in Below freezing temperatures. What gets me the most is they've been out to our location multiple times and nothing has changed. Matter a fact, if it wasn't for the unity of our community we're in, we would of still be blocked in the road. Its almost as if they look at the damage and are like, yea whatever, let someone else handle this mess. NJ had the opportunity to have outside help with a few hundred additional companies come in and get the system's up quicker, Instead the stupid union's turned them away. Guess who picked them up, NY. I can't understand why Chris Christie can not over-ride these union's decision and say we will use whatever support we get from the outside to assure that our residences are taken care of. James Barberio and Chris Christie, I voted for you last time around and now your nowhere to be found. Looks like we need new leadership in NJ and Parsippany unless something is done soon. I've thrown away hundreds of dollars of food and waited over 10 gallons of gas a day. This must end....

Ron Morano, a JCP&L spokesman, said.... "the geography of Washington Township proved extremely labor intensive because "putting up six poles might serve only 12 customers (in the township)."

This is their PR guy talking NONSENSE and putting the spin on. We still have THREE SCHOOLS out + thousands of residents out where the restoration delays are not because "putting up six poles might serve only 12 customers (in the township)."

And, more nonssense from him, ""The storm caused damage to the backbone of the system that needed to be repaired first," Morano said. "We can't do that street-level repair until we restore power to these substations." If the right number of resources were brough in they they could have been working on poles and lines while the substation work was going on.

@Bartley Road, not to be heartless, but it's called disaster preparation. If you rely on the internet for your livelihood, you need to have a backup plan for how to obtain service. For example, you could have gotten a wireless adapter ("air card") from Verizon or perhaps others. You could have simply relocated to someplace that had internet. You could have dipped into your SIX MONTH EMERGENCY FUND. (What? You don't have one? Shame on you! What will you do if you become hospitalized and can't work? How do you plan on ever retiring? )

cv, what was the make and model? Did it have ALL scheduled maintenance performed per the manual? Was it used in accordance with the duty cycle specified in the manual? Is there a warranty? Was it still within the warranty period?

By way of comparison, we have a little Honda EU2000i which I started up on Monday evening of the storm, and turned it off only ONCE until yesterday when the power came back on. In other words, it ran for 9.5 days continuously. The one time I turned it off was to change the oil after it had been running for 100 hours. I changed the oil (which took about 20 minutes), then fired it back up and It then ran another 90 hours until the power came on. So it will need another oil change in 10 hours. I keep a log, and I follow the manufacturer's instructions religiously. With this little puppy, we had lights, heat, TV, internet, phone. Everything but running water. It was wonderful. We literally couldn't have survived without it, since we would have had no source of heat.

I understand many of the bigger ones have limits on how long they can be continuously run. Was yours such a unit?

I assume JCP&L will begin to redirect the personnel they currently have working in Bernards Township back down to Ocean and Monmouth County to reconnect those that were recently connected as a result of. Hurricane Sandy; further delaying power to those of us living in Bernards Township. I would like to know where Mayor Pavlini has been hiding during all of this. Mayors from other towns have been utilizing real-time communication to keep their residents informed via 101.5 FM. We need to elect local officials that understand the importance of thinking outside the box, especially during times like this.

I've also done the same. Our mayor is WORTHLESS, he would not even come out and speak to me when I went there in person, was "allegedly" on a conference call with Don Lynch. I have left a very heated message asking for a full explanation as to why JCP&L was able to fix 3 poles and get Washington St area up and running in a day after Cipplini's garbage truck took out the poles. They have done nothing on James street, the debris is exactly as it was the night of the storm. I had to call the police, yet again to get them to come out last night in the storm to put up more cones so people wouldn't drive blindly into the wreck. I can bet we are completely last on their list because the James St. bridge is closed. Why do they need to rush to open the street, nobody can get thru anyway. This is completely unacceptable, we are being held hostage in what is supposedly a free country. I have lost all faith in government and our country. I will not be paying jcp&l a cent more than $1.00, I don't care what they threaten me with. The residents of this state that have been so grossly neglected by JCP&L need to simply not pay them. We need to speak with our wallets this time and not allow them to bully us. There needs to be picketing in Trenton at the governor's office to get him to throw JCP&L the heck out of this state. Sad thing is once this is over people will go back to their lives and forget about it until the next time and you know there will be a next time!

Day 10, still no power, and the utility pole and downed tree are both still lying in the middle of Alpine Drive in Morris Township. This is so very wrong and there's no end in sight. JCP&L needs to start providing people with an action plan as to when we can expect to get our lives back.

Power is still out for most of Washington Township. The Mayor said JCPL has to be held accountable... though didn't he say this last time around? Washington Township is 45 square miles, and is Morris County’s largest, most rural, and westernmost municipality. Why is it that the majority of the Township is still out?!? We need to be made a PRIORITY, instead of restoring power to JCPL customers who have had power but only recently lost it because of the snow storm. It is not fair or practical to keep residences in the dark and business unable to earn income because of JCPL's incompetence. It is also unconscionable to keep Washington Township's students out of school while other areas keep being restored.

7% of 1.2 million is 84,000 not 149,000. 149,000 is about 12.5%. If you're going to lie about your numbers be sure to be consistent with your lie. You need to change the numbers behind the percentages as well.

You know how *I* know the numbers are fictional? More than one work order was "cancelled" in their system, even though NO REPAIRS were made. That's a way to make your numbers go down but the numbers are no longer based on fact.
They actually called me to let me know that the power was back - Um no it is not. There are still trees & lines across my driveway. But since they cancelled the repair order: their numbers went down YAY ! If you have no power, check your work order by calling JCP&L. If it is still open, they will acknowledge your order is already in their system. If it is not, you will have to start the process from the start. But HEY, their numbers went down!!

Here's what I believe. I met a crew this afternoon in our Wayne neighborhood. They were subcontractors for Jcpl. They were from Michigan. I asked them where they had just come from. They said Massachusetts. What, there aren't skilled workers here in nj that can do this? We have to wait for people to come from Michigan. New Mexico and West Virginia.? Why? They have a limit they want to spend on a crew and dispatch them all over their vast national marketplace. "We ll get to wayne whenever we get there". My friends, the magnitude of the storm was severe. The work was not complex. There was just a lot of it. If this utility invested twice as much in people power and support to restore us it would have happened twice as fast. I think it was that simple. They didn't want to spend the money. The government didn't force them to and we paid the price.

R. Pignatello - Just because you "believe" something doesn't make it correct. Pls read the comment from "Gary" earlier in the comments list. He states the case correctly and with knowledge of the business of energy and utilities. The bottom line is that millions of dollars of electrical equipment was destroyed (lines, transformers, circuits, partial and even entire substations). It takes time to obtain new for these - don't care HOW MANY workers the utility company has or calls in from other states to help do the work. And there is NO WAY to have all those parts at hand. IF it were possible - the cost would be so high - that your electric bill (and mine) would rise to about $2,000 per month. If your bill were that amount but your service could be restored in 1 day no matter HOW LARGE a catastrophic event occurred - what would your complaint be (let's guess...)

It would be nice to be able to do that without personal attack from those who's views they think are somehow superior. Why don't you go and start your own blog in support of this utility company that the rest of think could have done much better last year and now too.

The price gouging, union nonsense, and corruption during this crisis have shown those in the surrounding areas just how dysfunctional NJ really is. Keep paying top dollar taxes to support the broken system.

It is a known fact that NJEA union thugs are behind the extended outage because they hate to work and to ensure their fellow union thugs fixing the lines max their overtimes.

Given JCP&L's disregard for us,I propose that they should give township residents the month of December for free as restitution for what they have made us endure this month. If not, I would propose that those of us that have generators continue to use them as long as possible and not buy their power. In addition, I think all of Washington Townnship's residents should refuse to pay their November bill, led by the Township government itself. The only way to get JCP&L's attention is to hit them where it hurts--in their pocketbook.

Remember what the sanitation union members did during that huge snowstorm in manhattan a few years back? They "plowed" the streets with their plows up to protest u ion layoffs put in when Bloomberg (another souless creature)!needed to rein in spending. People died due to their direct refusal to clear the streets. Ambulances could not save people including an infant who died because paramedics could not get through. The union heads do not care one bit about anyone, just lining their own pockets. I know their are many union workers who are kind and decent people its the heads that should be prosecuted and they absolutely have rank and file members who are nothing but soul less thugs

Robert-what tax cuts are you referring too?? Our taxes have not been cut in decades. Rates rise and service plummets from my experience
