Help Neighbors, Ask for Help on Patch

Talk to each other on this post, help each other get through this tough time.

The worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed and residents of Somerset County are trying to resume normal lives again in the wake of the storm.

Many people are without power, many more are without gasoline to run their generators.

Our Somerset County Patch sites are providing this forum where residents can post their contact information with a description of an item they are willing to donate to those in the greater coverage area hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy.

Those affected by the storm can reach out to donors whose items fit their needs. Families who lost possessions in the storm are also welcome to post details about what they need.

To do so, please use the comments section below.

Is there somewhere in town, preferably near the Muni Bldg that I can drop off some canned goods for people who are still out of power? I stocked up on non-perishables, but now have electric. Thanks!

Hillsborough Township Social Services always accepts donations of non-perishable foods and personal toiletries. They maintain a food pantry for Township residents in need. I doubt they will be open on the weekend but M-F during normal business hours. The entrance is in the back of the Municipal Building where the library book drop is located.

Stephanie, do you know of any place that my friend who lives on Mt. Airy Rd. can go to warm up, shower, charge cell phone and food?

Rose, we're in Hillsborough. Not sure where Mt. Airy Road is, but they are welcome to come here.

If anyone local to the back to nature garden center has a gas can to lend...we have a car with not enough gas to wait on a line... We are across the street with no power.

Please dont use the hurricane to get rich... Keep prices as they are... Alpine roofers wanted to charge me almost $1300 to replace 3 shingles... 2b roofers charged me $350 for the same job! Are people becoming animals within this short time? No thanks, no help wanted anymore... This has not happaned to us in other countries and continents we lived in... your reputation is getting better and better, allow me to pass the message to the rest of the world!

Hey disgusted - raising prices during a state of emergency by more than 10% of the regular cost is against the law in New Jersey. You can get more info and file a complaint at http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/. Of course, public shaming here helps too and gives the rest of us a list of people not to call for work.

Does anyone have an update on where power has been restored in Hillsborough in the last 24 hrs. I'm getting tired of hearing that my power will be on by midnight November 9th.

Ditto for us in Basking Ridge. Wishful thinking that it may be on anytime soon, but are there any updates? We live right outside of town, near the high school and are without heat and hot water, as are most of our neighbors. I predict a week or two, at best. Anyone from JCP&L or PSE&G out there??

Still no power in Hamilton Woods as of Sunday morning, Lisa. It's getting to be very frustrating since there's no evidence that JCP&L is working on our problem and yes, I'm starting to think that they're not really working round the clock. Shame.

A week now with no power. This is ridiculous. I went through Hurricane Katrina and my town was leveled and we had power in less time. JCP&L is a joke

I'm a single parent, and after being out of work for the week, I've got less than $5 to my name and no means of generating income to support my child and I. Does anyone know of any work opportunities?
