Fire Company Events Close Out Prevention Week
Open houses in Watchung and Green Brook help mark annual event.
Fire Prevention Week began Monday, but area events marking the annual focus on preventing fires will finish the week.
In Green Brook, the Fire/EMS will host an open house at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Visitors can check out the equipment, learn about the services provided and enjoy refreshments.
The fire company also sponsors an essay contest for kids—youngsters can check out the winning entries.
Watchung's fire department will commemorate Fire Prevention Day Sunday, beginning with a service at Wilson Memorial Church at 10 a.m., followed by an open house at the fire station at noon.
Fire Prevention Week has been marked across the country since 1922, according to the National Fire Prevention Association. Firefighters visits to schools to explain safety rules and showcase fire fighting trucks and equipment is a popular fall tradition.
